This time it is related to her older brother, Batarti Gabbard. He was arrested in Hawaii after a police officer alleged that he tried to take many children into a nearby hotel room near the Waikiki hotel pool. However, his family has defended the incident. They claim that the 55-year-old has been dealing with a serious mental health crisis.
Who is Tulsi Gabbard's brother, Batarti Gabbard?
Bhakti Gabbard, better known as Batarti Gabbard is Tulsi Gabbard's elder brother. Although Tulsi has spent many years in public office and national politics, her brother mostly stayed out of public life. According to his family, he recently started using the name “Batarti” instead of Bhakti.

Batarti has become the center of public attention after Honolulu Police arrested him due an alleged incident that took place near Waikiki. According to the authorities, it happened on July 12, 2026 when the 55-year-old allegedly approached a group of kids.
The group of children also included a 9-year-old boy. Batarti allegedly offered them gum and money if they followed him to a nearby hotel room. Cops further claimed that Batarti asked the kids for their names and wrote them down in a notebook.
However, the kids reportedly refused his offers and he left the area. But later a woman reported the incident to police. In turn, the cops identified and arrested him. Meanwhile, authorities clarified that no children were physically harmed during the incident.
What did Batarti Gabbard's family say on his alleged action to lure kids in a hotel room?
After Batarti's arrest, his family shared their concern for his mental health. Batarti's father, Mike, told the local media that his son had recently started behaving erratically after allegedly smoking marijuana.
Therefore, the Gabbard family believes that the substance might have contributed to his severe psychological episode. According to his father, the 55-year-old gave away his car, lost his phone and identification. In fact, he even began to identify himself as “Jim Morrison Jr” because he thought he was a famous rock star. On the other hand, Batarti's wife, Kimberly reportedly sought legal protection after his behavior became more and more unpredictable
Mike Gabbard also mentioned that another family member later took Batarti to a hospital, where he underwent a psychological evaluation. Eventually, he was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold. In turn, the family has explained that the situation is more of a mental health emergency. But they hope that he gets the appropriate treatment.

It is important to note that Tusli Gabbard has not made any comment on her brother's arrest or the allegations on him. For those unaware, she had resigned from her post following her husband, Abraham William's rare bone cancer diagnosis.
Meanwhile, the Honolulu Police took Batarti into custody on July 17, 2026 in relation to the alleged hotel pool incident. They have also charged him with second-degree custodial interference related to the alleged attempt to lure children away from their guardians.
On the other hand, local reports suggest that Batarti was separately taken into custody due to a theft case. However, he had pleaded not guilty to the charge. In turn, he is scheduled to appear in court for the same in August 2026.
