Who is Abby Elliott's husband Bill Kennedy? Inside their love story and marriage
Just like Abby Elliott, her estranged husband, Bill Kennedy is also a renowned figure in the entertainment industry; however, he isn't an actor. He is an Emmy-nominated Hollywood screenwriter and producer, best known as the co-executive producer of critically acclaimed drama series such as House of Cards and The Morning Show. His other high-profile credits include Tell Me Lies and Life on the Line, for which he served as the producer. As per Bill's IMDb profile, he is the screenwriter of the popular TV series American Odyssey and Sex Ed.
Abby Elliott and Bill Kennedy first met in 2014 on the set of the comedy film Sex Ed, in which she starred. After the filming wrapped up, the cast and crew went out for dinner, and, fatefully, Abby and Bill shared a dish: lobster mac and cheese. The duo grew close while working together on the movie; however, their relationship didn't turn romantic at the time. They actually began dating a few months later when Abby returned to Brooklyn, and he reached out to her under the guise of discussing a scene from the film.

Abby and Bill then met up over a meal of oysters and martinis, and it became their first official date. After dating for over a year, Bill went down on one knee and proposed to The Bear star with his grandmother's ring on October 28, 2015. The happy moment took place at their New York apartment. Recalling how beautifully he decorated their house with flowers and candles for the surprise proposal, Abby told The Knot:
"We've been dating for a year-and-a-half, I think. It was a surprise. He did it in our apartment, and it was beautiful. There were flowers everywhere."
About a year later, Abby and Bill decided to take their relationship to the next level. The former Saturday Night Live cast member and the producer tied the knot on September 3, 2016. The now-estranged couple got married in a traditional Catholic ceremony held at Abby's childhood church in Eastern Connecticut. According to PEOPLE, they made their day more personal and special by including their families in the ceremony in unique ways.
Besides Abby's father, actor Chris Elliott, walking her down the aisle, her sister Bridey Elliott prepared a sweet performance for her. She also served as the maid of honor, and her uncle customized the event menus with hand calligraphy. Four years into marriage, Abby and Bill became parents to daughter Edith Pepper Kennedy in October 2020 and welcomed son William 'Billy' Joseph Lunney Kennedy IV in June 2023. Both the kids were born through IVF.
