Where Is Collin Gosselin Now? Inside His Life After Leaving Estranged Mom, Kate Gosselin's Custody

Jon and Kate Plus 8 fame, Collin Gosselin, is again in the spotlight. Although he grew up in front of the camera, the situation changed over time. In turn, Collin stepped out of attention after leaving his mother, Kate Gosselin, in custody. Eventually, he spoke to the media about his strained bond from her and his six siblings. Since Collin is set to share it all in his upcoming memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving The Reality of My Childhood. 

Where is Collin Gosselin now?

Collin Gosselin attends Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). There, he studies Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. After several years in the public eye, he has chosen to lead a quiet life focused on his education and future. Before enrolling in college, Collin graduated from high school in 2024 with his sister, Hannah Gosselin. 

At the same time, he fulfilled a longtime dream by joining the U.S. Marine Corps. However, Collin was discharged during training due to his prior records from a behavioural health facility. 

For the past few months, Collin has been preparing for the release of his memoir. He promises it will give insight into his childhood experiences and life after reality TV. The 22-year-old also mentioned that it would be a way for him to reclaim his story after several years of public speculation.

Collin's life changed in 2018 when his father, Jon Gosselin, got sole physical and legal custody after his mother, Kate, did not appear at a court hearing. Since then, he has moved in with Jon and his sister, Hannah, in Pennsylvania after spending more than two years at a behaviouralbehavioural health facility. 

Inside Collin Gosselin's relationship with his family today 

Although Collin Gosselin rebuilt many parts of his life, his relationships with many of his family members continue to remain strained. According to Collin, he has had no contact with his estranged mother, Kate Gosselin, since 2016. Despite that, he has publicly called her out for abuse, confinement, and unfairly treating him compared to his siblings. 

Meanwhile, Kate has always denied those allegations. In fact, she has accused Collin of struggling with major behavioural and mental health issues during his childhood. Apart from his mother, Collin also mentioned that he is estranged from six of his seven siblings. The sibling he remains close to is Hannah Gosselin, who decided to live with their father. He previously mentioned that he supports her even though she is trying to rebuild her bond with their mother. 

On the other hand, Jon Gosselin's former longtime partner, Colleen Conrad, had been an important figure in his life. Collin has publicly called her his "real mom" and thanked her for supporting him during some of the most difficult periods of his life. 

What went wrong between Collin and Kate Gosselin?

The conflict between Collin and Kate goes back to 2016 when Kate enrolled her 12-year-old son in a behavioural facility. She explained that the decision was important because he was facing serious behaviour issues, which needed professional treatment. However, Collin has strongly disputed the explanation. 

In some of his interviews, including one with Vice TV's Dark Side of the 2000s, he alleged that he was sent away after he spoke with his teachers about the alleged abuse at his home. He also alleged that he was isolated and heavily medicated. Yet, Kate has always denied these allegations. 

Instead, Kate always maintained that Collin had multiple psychiatric diagnoses. So, she believed that placing him in treatment was important to protect him and the rest of his family. In turn, their different narratives have left their family divided for years.
