However, when it comes to his personal life, there is one tenet of his life that he seldom speaks of. For the unversed, before marrying Shilpa, he was married to his childhood bestie, Kavita. In an interview with ETimes, Raj Kundra openly spoke about his previous broken relationship and for the first time ever, revealed the reasons behind separating from his first wife. Revealing how Kavita had cheated on him with his sister’s husband, Raj revealed:
“I feel so much lighter to be able to speak the truth about what really happened after so many years! My mother caught my ex-wife and sister's husband red handed in compromising situations many times. Two families were spoiled here; they didn't think twice!"

Moreover, Raj Kundra further revealed how his current wife, Shilpa Shetty Kundra reacted to the real reason behind his decision to call it quits on his previous marriage. He revealed it was especially important for him to come out clear about it all, since at that time it was Shilpa who was frequently attacked to be the reason behind Raj’s divorce. In his words:
“Shilpa didn't want me to speak when I sent her the old articles going viral again. The timing of these articles, days after her birthday going viral again, upset me. Enough was enough! Shilpa is upset I spoke my heart out, but the truth had to come out"
As every coin has a flip side, Kavita too had her fair share of reasons to speak about her broken marriage with Raj Kundra. Right after all the gossips about Shilpa being the reason behind Raj Kundra’s broken marriage, Kavita, too added her share of allegations against the actress. In her words:
“I look at the pictures of them together and think, she's with my husband, she's living my life. While I was trying to put our marriage back together, he was talking constantly about Shilpa, as if it didn't matter what happened to us because he had found someone better, cleverer and more famous than me. Now he has begun pestering me for a divorce. I asked him if he planned to marry someone else but he avoided the question."
