Veteran actress, Rekha is an evergreen star, who has been ruling the Hindi film industry since the early 70s and is loved tremendously for her charm and acting skills. Hailed as one of the most beautiful actresses in Bollywood, Rekha can give any young actress a run for their money. While Rekha's professional life was a hit, her personal life has not been a bed of roses. The actress had her own share of controversies, and she was often targeted for being a vamp. From alleged marriage to rumoured affairs, Rekha has many stories to her credit. And one of the shocking incidents from her controversial past was when Sanjay Dutt's mother, Nargis Dutt made a gruesome remark against Rekha.

It so happened that Rekha's name was once linked to actor Sanjay Dutt, and rumours were rife that the duo was growing close with each passing day. The two actors worked together in the film, Zameen Akash, in 1984, and soon after that, there were rumours claiming that Rekha applied sindoor of Sanjay Dutt's name. However, Rekha and Sanjay kept mum about the ongoing reports about their alleged romance.
However, Sanjay Dutt's mother, Nargis Dutt couldn't hold back to the media reports, and back in 1976, made a controversial statement against Rekha. She mentioned that Rekha used to give signals to men and was easily available to them. Not just this, Nargis also went on to call her a witch. Nargis further added that she thought that Rekha is lost and needed a strong man in her life. Nargis Dutt was quoted as:
"She (Rekha) used to give such signals to men that she could be easily available. In the eyes of some people, she is nothing less than a witch. Sometimes I think I understand her. I’ve worked with a lot of children with a lot of psychological problems in my time. She’s lost. She needs a strong man."

While reports about Sanjay and Rekha's alleged relationship were the talk of the town back then, rumour mills churned new updates about them every other day. Not many know that there were rumours that Sanjay Dutt and Rekha had been married to each other, but they were keeping it under wraps. However, much later, the author of Rekha's biography, Yaseer Usman, denied those baseless rumours and even mentioned that Sanjay had given an official denial regarding his relationship with Rekha in a magazine interview.
Despite being in the headlines for her love for Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha went on to get married to her businessman husband, Mukesh Agarwal. However, the entire nation labelled her as a cold-hearted man-eater when her husband died by suicide. Mukesh was suffering from chronic depression, and Rekha learnt about it only after their marriage. In an unfortunate turn of events, Mukesh decided to end his life and hanged himself on the room's ceiling fan, using his wife’s dupatta on October 2, 1990. After this incident, a witch-hunt was started in the nation, and Rekha was blamed for murdering her husband.
