Popular celebrity couple, Dharmendra and Hema Malini had a hush-hush wedding in 1980, and the duo welcomed their first daughter, Esha Deol, in November 1981. The couple received a lot of criticism for their marriage, and Hema was labelled as a homewrecker. Despite the high-profile criticisms, Hema Malini and Dharmendra continued to stand beside each other. Moreover, Dharmendra was careful to ensure that his wife gets all the comfort in her life, and something similar happened when Hema was pregnant with their first child, Esha.
Hema Malini had hidden the news of her first pregnancy from her fans, and only her close friends and family members were aware of it. So, to minimise disturbance and ensure privacy, Dharmendra had booked a 100-room hospital only for his wife, Hema at the time of Esha's birth. Hema Malini’s friend, Neetu Kohli had revealed this fact in an episode of the talk show, Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, and said:
"When Esha was going to be born, nobody knew that Hema was pregnant so Dharam ji had booked the whole hospital for Esha. It was a nursing home with about 100 rooms. He booked all the 100 rooms for Esha to be born.”

Listening to this, Hema Malini agreed and confirmed that her husband had performed such a special gesture for her. Meanwhile, Esha Deol, who was sitting on the stage with her mother, couldn't stop blushing and her heart was swelling with pride. Soon, Neetu added that nobody knew that Hema was going to be a mother and that Dharam ji had booked the hospital. In her words:
"No one knew that this is what Dharam ji had done.”
Earlier, in her biography, Hema Malini: Beyond The Dream Girl, Hema Malini got candid about her first pregnancy and recalled the time when she met Dharmendra's mother, Satwant Kaur. She shared that her mother-in-law had come to meet her at a dubbing studio in Juhu after she had conceived Esha. Satwant Kaur hugged Hema and even blessed her ahead of the new chapter of her life. Hema shared:
"Dharamji’s mother Satwant Kaur was equally warm and kind-hearted. I remember how she came to meet me once at a dubbing studio in Juhu after I had conceived Esha. She hadn’t informed anyone in the house. I touched her feet, and she hugged me and said, ‘Beta, khush raho hamesha.’ I was happy that they were happy with me.”

When Hema Malini and her daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol graced Simi Garewal's talk show, Rendezvous With Simi Garewal, the veteran actress revealed that her husband, Dharmendra likes their daughters to be always dressed up in ethnic ensembles. Esha also recalled how she would make Dharmendra accept her decision to join films slowly, as he would get angry. The loving daughter also revealed her father, Dharmendra's possessive side and revealed that he always asks them to sit at home. Mentioning that his upbringing is Punjabi type, Esha revealed that it is only because of their mother that they could go out for sports and all.
For the unversed, Dharmendra was already married to his first wife, Prakash Kaur and had four children, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Ajeeta Deol and Vijayta Deol, when he tied the knot with Hema Malini.
