Nearly 15 years after Michelle Parker vanished on the same day a pre-recorded episode of The People's Court featuring her and her ex-fiancé aired, the case has taken a major turn. Dale Smith Jr. was arrested on October 14, 2026, and charged with second-degree murder in connection with Parker's disappearance.

Parker, a Florida mother of three, was 33 when her vanishing was reported in November 2011. She allegedly disappeared without a trace after dropping her kids off. Now suspected dead, Michelle's body has never been found, but Orlando police say a renewed investigation has helped investigators uncover additional evidence against her Smith.

What happened to Michelle Parker after her People's Court appearance?

Police records reveal that Michelle Parker was last seen on November 17, 2011, after she dropped off her three-year-old twins at her ex-fiancé Smith's home in Orlando. The former couple shared the twins' custody, and Smith was the last known person to see or hear from Parker that day. She was expected to run errands before heading to her evening shift at a bar in Sanford, Florida. However, she never arrived at work.

The case quickly attracted national attention because a prerecorded episode of The People's Court featuring Parker and Smith had aired on the same day that she disappeared. Her dispute was centered on an engagement ring worth approximately USD 5,000 that Smith wanted her to return after their relationship ended.

During the televised proceedings, Smith claimed that Parker had thrown the engagement ring off a balcony after their messy breakup. Parker told Judge Marilyn Milian that Smith had repeatedly cheated on her during the relationship. She said during the episode:

"He's cheated on me constantly, and I've always tried to keep it together for the kids."

Parker also described Smith as "pretty malicious and vindictive" while explaining the argument over the ring. She said she had taken it off and thrown it at him after he demanded its return. "He said that he wanted his ring, so I took it off, and I threw it at him."

While the episode was filmed months before it aired, its broadcast eerily coincided with Parker's November 2011 disappearance. Her vanishing has remained unsolved to date.

The day after Parker was last seen, her Hummer was discovered abandoned in an Orlando mall parking lot. Investigators noted that its custom decals had been removed. Several weeks later, her iPhone was recovered from the water near the Nela Bridge in Belle Isle, south of Orlando. Smith became a prime suspect early on in the investigation, but he was not charged.

Why was Dale Smith Jr. arrested nearly 15 years after Michelle Parker's vanishing?

The case drew renewed attention recently when reports claimed that Smith was arrested in connection with Parker's disappearance. On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Orlando police announced Smith's arrest following a renewed examination of the case. Investigators expanded the team working on the disappearance over the past year and revisited evidence collected during the original investigation.

Orlando Police Chief Eric D. Smith (who is not related to the suspect) said investigators reviewed testimony, examined conflicting statements, and used updated digital forensic techniques to analyze evidence. He said during a news conference:

"Smith was the last known person to see or hear from Michelle on Nov. 17, 2011, after she dropped their children off at his home… We re-examined testimony and conflicting statements made by the suspect and used advances in digital forensics to uncover and analyze additional evidence."

In August 2023, investigators searched property owned by Smith's father and excavated a concrete slab, but no human remains were found. Police have not publicly detailed all the evidence supporting the murder charge.

Smith's attorney, Rajan Joshi, told USA Today on October 15, 2026, that the arrest came as a surprise. He said Smith had maintained his innocence throughout the years. Joshi said:

"I spent time with him last night at the jail, and I've talked to him for 15 years now, just about. He's always maintained his innocence. That's the mother of his child. We want to see justice done for Michelle Parker and her family. We just don't want the wrong guy convicted."

Dale Smith Jr. appeared in court on October 15, 2026. A judge ordered him held without bond, and a future hearing was scheduled to reconsider the issue.

Michelle Parker's family 'knew' her ex-fiancé was involved in her vanishing

For Parker's family, Smith's arrest marks a significant development in a case that has remained unresolved for almost a decade and a half. The missing woman's mother, Yvonne Stewart, told WESH on October 15, 2026, that she was not surprised by the arrest. She told the outlet:

"I knew. We all knew…They told me they arrested Dale Smith on second-degree murder charges for Michelle Parker, and it's like the happiest day because she deserves this."

Parker's three children were left without their mother when she disappeared. Her twins with Smith were just three years old at the time, while her older son later went to live with his father in another state, according to reports. With Smith's arrest, Parker's mother hopes that he will provide information about her daughter's whereabouts. She told WESH:

"I would love for [Smith] to tell us where she is."

Smith currently faces a second-degree murder charge, but he has not been proven guilty.
