What Caused Tay Keith's Death At 29? All About The Music Producer's Family And Final Days Revealed

After BlocBoy JB's Instagram posts hinted towards Tay Keith's death, authorities confirmed the news. His death has left the music industry in shock. Tay, best known for making some of the biggest hip-hop hits of the last decade, has bid farewell to the world at the mere age of 29. Although the authorities have confirmed that there is no foul play involved in the case, let us know all about his lesser-known family and final days before death. 

Tay Keith's death had "no foul play"

According to a new update from Metro Nashville Police, Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, better known as Tay Keith, was found unresponsive at his apartment. It was situated on Martin Street, where officers had visited for a routine welfare check. Soon, the emergency officers arrived at the scene. However, Tay Keith was pronounced dead before he could have been given any medical attention. Still, the authorities found no signs of foul play. At the same time, the authorities are yet to reveal an official cause of death. 

Meanwhile, Tay Keith's death case remains open, and authorities are awaiting the results of the autopsy and further medical examinations. For those unaware, the news first gained attention online when Memphis rapper, BlocBoy shared a series of emotional Instagram stories. In one post, he shared a broken-heart emoji. It was followed by an old photo of himself and Tay Keith. Later, he shared some screenshots showing that they used to talk on the phone every day. Sharing the proofs, he penned: 

"We talked every day, you ain't telling me you were leaving."

Tay Keith's final days before his sudden death 

Before his sudden death, Tay Keith was active in the music industry. In fact, he was working on new projects. Industry insiders mentioned that he was involved in studio sessions and collaborations across the country in his final months. Notably, one of his final major releases came in May 2026, when he celebrated his production work on Chris Brown's song Call Your Name. It featured Sexyy Red and GloRilla. Meanwhile, Tay's friends described him as hardworking, focused and deeply committed to his draft. After his death, several producers and artists who worked with Tay have shared fond memories of him.  

Tay Keith's lesser-known family 

Tay Keith often credited his family for helping to shape his success. He grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, in a hardworking household. His family used to strongly encourage education. Tay's father worked as a locksmith, while his mother earned her GED before attending cosmetology school. But, despite his massive success at a young age, Tay's parents insisted that he complete his education. He eventually graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Media Management. However, Tay also faced a major personal loss when his mother passed away in 2021 after a battle with cancer. In turn, it had a major impact on Tay.

Tay Keith was born in Memphis. He began to make beats as a teenager and uploaded his work online. Eventually, he entered the mainstream. His friendship with another Memphis artist, BlocBoy JB, helped  launch his career, especially after he made the hit song, Look Alive featuring Drake. His success quickly went beyond Memphis.

Tay went on to produce chart-topping records such as Drake's Nonstop, Travis Scott's Sicko Mode, and Eminem's Not Alive. His signature producer tag had also become one of the most recognised introductions in modern hip-hop. Over time, he worked with some of the big names in the industry, such as Drake, Travis Scott, Megan Thee Stallion, Chris Brown, and GloRilla.
