Ruby Rose recently created headlines with her claims that Katy Perry sexually assaulted her when she was in her early 20s. The actress shared the details on Threads on April 12, 2026. Katy’s representative has already dismissed the allegations in a separate statement. For the unversed, it is not the first time that Ruby and Katy have had issues with each other. The duo previously had a feud on another occasion in 2017. Keep reading to know more!

Katy Perry and Ruby Rose had a dispute with each other in 2017, following the release of the former’s single, Swish Swish. The single was included in the soundtrack of Katy’s album, Witness, released in the same year. However, Ruby was unhappy with the song as she allegedly believed that it was targeted at Taylor Swift, a close friend of the actress.
Ruby criticised Katy by sharing two posts on X on May 19, 2017. One of them featured Rose addressing a lot of things, including Purposeful Pop, a term created when Katy’s album, Witness, was scheduled to be released. Notably, the word referred to Katy’s shift towards meaningful and socially conscious music. Ruby used another word in her tweet, Bomb a Petit, which reportedly referred to Katy’s single, Bon Appetit. The single and the album were not as successful as Katy’s previous works. In another tweet, Ruby wrote:
“I just think with everything going on in the world to go from rebranding as political activist only to ditch it and go low.. is.. a bummer.”

Around four days after Ruby Rose’s tweets went viral, she expressed regret over everything that she shared. On May 21, 2017, Ruby wrote that she does not like to be a mean person because it makes her feel dirty. Rose mentioned that she reacts immediately when “bullies” are not blamed for whatever they have done. Ruby said that this is a situation where she feels like she needs to say something. Ruby continued:
“I have always believed strongly that Karma exists and the truth always surfaces however I’m not god and I can’t decide when or how that is. Clearly comes from being bullied in school & wanting to stick up for the underdogs. However I shouldn’t stoop because then the msg is mixed.”

Ruby Rose’s tweets initially created headlines. But Katy Perry did not respond to any of them. There was no response from Taylor Swift at the same time. Notably, Katy and Taylor have had a feud for many years. Although the duo shared a close relationship in the beginning, the situation took a different turn when Taylor told Rolling Stone in 2014 that her single, Bad Blood, was referring to another woman from the same industry.
Although Taylor did not reveal the name of the person she was talking about, she said that she was never convinced about the fact that they were close friends. Taylor even made other allegations, including that the other person had reportedly attempted to create problems during a tour. While Katy did not give a direct response to the tweet, she said that people will get to hear everything if someone attempts to defame her character.
