Bollywood actor, Vicky Kaushal is one of the most sought-after actors of his generation. With his spectacular performances in movies like Masaan, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, Sardar Udham, URI: The Surgical Strike and others, Vicky etched a place in the hearts of the audience. On the personal front, he is happily married to actress, Katrina Kaif, and the much-in-love couple often talk about each other and heap praises on one another, leaving everyone in awe of them.
In an interview with Film Companion, Vicky Kaushal opened up about his actress-wife, Katrina Kaif and lauded her hard work and dedication. Heaping praises on his wife, Vicky stated that Katrina has created her own era just like the veteran actresses, Hema Malini and Rekha. The doting husband said:
“Knowing her, not everything was going as per her, she has really hustled and worked hard and aced it. I don’t want to cross a line on her behalf but I truly feel that like there was Hema Malini’s era, Rekha’s era and I truly feel she has achieved that sort of milestone on her merit.”
Vicky Kaushal further called Katrina very practical when it comes to work and revealed that she is a very emotional person otherwise. The loving husband also talked about taking advice from his wife regarding his performance and mentioned that he takes her opinions seriously because it comes from her wisdom and experience. Sharing how Katrina brings her knowledge from her two-decade-long successful Bollywood career, Vicky said:
“She will say the fact as a fact, especially when it comes to my performance or my trailer. When I show her my dance rehearsal, then I am dead. I know this is coming from all that experience, and it helps me so much. When it comes to making decisions, when I am wondering ye karu ya wo karu… she will really state things which I know are coming from so much experience of highs and lows, of right decisions and mistakes. When she has an opinion, I know I have to consider it seriously because it is very objective. That wisdom and practicality is something very commendable.”
Vicky Kaushal also recalled his struggling days in the film industry and opened up about his parents, Sham Kaushal and Veena Kaushal's roles in keeping both him and his younger brother, Sunny Kaushal, grounded. He further revealed how growing up in a middle-class family shaped him as a person and shared that he was never allowed to drive his parents' car. In his words:
"My parents always made sure that both Sunny and I knew the difference between necessity and luxury. They always kept saying that necessity is something that will be provided to you. But, luxury is something you'll have to earn on your own."
However, he added that he was only allowed to drive when he had to drop his mother off for yoga and never for his work. Sharing that he used to take a bus or auto for his college or auditions, Vicky shared that his parents always told him that he could drive a car when he earned it with his own money. In his words:
"When we were going to college, when I was an AD whatever, we had a car at home but I was never allowed to drive it. Unless I have to take Mom to drop her off for yoga. But if I have to go for my job, for my work, even if I have to go to Anurag sir's office or auditions, I had to take a bus or an auto. I can't solo-drive a car. You had to earn your own car to do that."
Further in the interview, Vicky Kaushal also opened up about how his mother, Veena Kaushal always keeps him grounded. Recalling how his mother never took his popularity seriously in his initial years, the actor revealed how she even trolled him mercilessly. He added:
“Mujhe yaad hai ek baar in 2018 or ‘19, one of the leading publications wrote a list of ‘Most Desirable’ and mera naam aa gaya tha usmei. I had come back from a trip. Doston ke sath khoob khaya, masti ki ye wo toh. And I came back, I’m just lying down, my shirt is open and my mom is like, ‘Aa dekh lo, ye hai most desirable’. Trolling jab ghar pe hoti hai na aap shant rehte ho. Internet can’t shape me."
On the work front, Vicky Kaushal will be next seen in the film, Sam Bahadur.
