Bride Transforms Old Bedding To Make A Unique Wedding Gown, The Couture Was Sewn By Her Mother

Her desire became a reality when she hopped from store to store to find the perfect bridal gown for her. She wanted something unique to wear on the most special day of her life, and the stores had all the usual patterns.
Utah bride, Gracie Songer transformed old bedsheets into her unique wedding gown
Gracie wanted to wear a fabric that was light and airy. All the gowns she tried at high-end showrooms were gorgeous, but they lacked the emotional touch. Since Gracie wanted to wear something comfortable, her mom, Rebekah, stepped in. After trying multiple gowns, Gracie was frustrated and asked her mom to get a plain bedsheet to see how it looked on her.
Soon, her mom, Rebekah, went to the storage and brought an old white Battenberg lace bedding that she purchased in 1992. Rebekah had bought the bedsheet from a department store when she was just 16. She had bought the duvet and matching shams to keep for herself in the hope of her future marriage.
Rebekah got married in 1999 and used the white bedding she had purchased. But when it fell out of fashion, she kept it safe. Years later, the same bedding became her daughter’s wedding gown. Speaking about her unique choice of dress for her June 2026 wedding and the emotional connection with it, Gracie said:
“It’s just so crazy on so many levels because not only is it the most beautiful dress I have ever seen in my whole life, I’m the one that designed it, my mom is the one that made it, and it’s also made from a material that I slept on as a baby and that my mom bought in hopes of getting married.”

Making the duvet into a bridal gown was a task, but Gracie was sure that her mother, Rebekah, was the only one who could do it. Rebekah had some stitching experience, but she had never stitched couture. The gown was for Rebekah’s daughter’s big day, and the mom learned to sew it through trial and error over three months.
Rebekah made a fitted corset, a structured bodice and a voluminous skirt. As cotton can get wrinkles and can struggle to hold its shape, Rebekah covered organza to the underside of the skirt, while preserving the lace of the outfit. Speaking about the gown, Rebekah told PEOPLE:
“When Gracie asked if I would create her wedding dress, I was very intimidated. This project felt above my abilities, but Gracie was so sentimental about the dress being sewn by me, and she gave me the confidence to give it a try.”
After many hours, the dress was complete just five days before the wedding. Gracie was eager to take a look at the dress, but when she saw it, she was over the moon. Though she tried all the expensive gowns, nothing could come close to her homemade gown, as she said, ‘I don’t think they hold a match to my gown!’
At a time when brides spend over USD 10,000 for wedding gowns, Gracie’s homemade gown cost just over USD 150 in materials. But the value it carried was immeasurable. It was the dream of a young woman who purchased the bedding set in hope of her marriage. It ultimately became one of the most prized possessions of her daughter on her own wedding.
