Mark Twain had rightly said that age is an issue of mind over matter. If you do not mind, it does not matter. Also, there's no denying to the fact that most of the Bollywood flicks are bubbled with the emotions of eternal romance for decades. However, there are only a few real-life celebrity couples, who are remembered for lifelong devotion towards their partners. One such incredible love story is of two iconic actors, Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt. (Recommended Read: Did You Know Alia Bhatt Worked As An Assistant For Her Mother, Soni Razdan For This Movie?)
The two had come from contrasting backgrounds, as Nargis was the daughter of Mohan Babu and Jaddanbai. On the other side, Sunil was the son of a Punjabi land-owning family. But everything stopped when they had worked together for the first time in their movie, Mother India, as a fire accident had ignited the destined spark between them and the rest is history. Recently, we stumbled upon an iconic behind the scenes picture from Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt's iconic film, Mother India. The reason why this picture is quite iconic goes to the fact that this is clicked right-after the massive fire accident on the sets of their film. For the uninitiated, during the shooting of the film, a fire had broken down on the sets followed by a small accident and Nargis was the one, who was surrounded by big flames and was asking for help. That was the moment when Sunil Dutt, who like a true hero did not care about his life while saving the life of his crush and co-star, Nargis, who was stuck right in the middle of that raging fire. The incident had left Nargis impressed with Sunil's love and care for her. As Sunil had gotten burnt badly and was in a high fever, Nargis had taken care of him day and night. At that time, both of them had come closer and had finally confessed their love for each other. Take a look at the picture from that iconic moment:
Everyone was aware of the fact that Sunil Dutt was madly-in-love with Nargis, and even Nargis was overwhelmed with his sheer devotion towards her. That is the reason why the two had made the entire industry happy when they had announced their love for one another. Sunil and Nargis had gotten married secretly on March 11, 1958, and had later announced the news to their closed ones. They had celebrated their big day with a wedding reception with their close friends from the industry in attendance. At that time, Sunil Dutt was also ruling the industry after giving a series of hit films like Waqt, Khandaan, Mujhe Jeene Do, Humraaz, Padosan, Sujata, Mera Saaya, Gumraah, Yaadein, and many more. Soon the couple was blessed with three kids, Sanjay, Priya and Namrata. Not a lot of people are aware of the fact that Nargis and Raj Kapoor were in love with each other and the actress was also ready to be the second wife to Raj Kapoor. However, this did not work out well for Nargis as Raj had left her heartbroken. After their break-up, Nargis had gone into depression.
That is the reason why Nargis just could not stop herself from falling in love with Sunil Dutt, who was giving her the kind of respect and love she was worthy of. For Nargis, Sunil was a complete opposite of Raj. He was calm, shy, and plain-speaking with a deep respect for women. Raj, her previous boyfriend, was flirtatious. When Sunil came in her life, she was emotionally drained. He supported her in her bad times and never judged her for anything. Over the years, their love story had inspired different generations and will surely continue to inspire the upcoming ones too.
