Actress-turned-author, Twinkle Khanna is a well-known celebrity in Tinseltown. Popular for her comic timings and witty responses, Twinkle never shies away from speaking her heart out about everything trivial. Married to actor, Akshay Kumar, the gorgeousness often shares adorable glimpses of her married life on her IG handle. The couple is blessed with two kids, Aarav Kumar and Nitara Kumar.
In a recent conversation on her own show, Tweak, Twinkle Khanna opened up about the importance of being financially independent in life. She revealed that she never shared a joint bank account with her husband, Akshay Kumar, and mentioned how she prefers being financially self-reliant. She also talked about how she had to use her own funds to start a digital content company, Tweak.
During a conversation with actress, Neha Dhupia on her platform, Tweak India, Twinkle Khanna talked about her first salary at the age of 17, and revealed that she spent her first significant paycheque to book her first car, Opel. Sharing the details, she said:
“My first salary at the age of 17 was a pittance and it was enough to buy laddoos, I think. But I do remember my first significant paycheque and I put it down to buy a car, a silver Opel. I don’t even know if they make that car anymore. I had to take an EMI to pay for the rest of it.”
Further in the conversation, Twinkle Khanna revealed that she has never had a joint bank account since she got married. She also shared that she pays for her kids, Aarav and Nitara's education herself and added that she wants her kids to feel proud of it. In her words:
“Never, not from the day I got married. It’s always been separate. So I’m using, what would have been my daughters college fund, to fund myself. I’ve always made sure that I’m the one paying for their education. I want them to say that my mother paid for my education, and not just fed me aloo parathas.”
Being married to superstar, Akshay Kumar, one might expect Twinkle Khanna to lead a luxurious life. However, in the same conversation, Twinkle shared that she lives way below her means and revealed that she doesn't spend money on anything. Talking about the same, she said:
“I don’t spend money on anything. My family teases me and asks why am I working, if I am not spending on anything. I had to break my investment portfolio when I started Tweak. I had to invest in myself. I needed start-up money and there was no one else investing in me at that point.”
For the unversed, Twinkle Khanna tied the knot with Akshay Kumar in January 2001.
