The Grammy-winning country star has often been open about the emotional struggles behind her changing relationship with food, once revealing that she turned to eating as a "coping mechanism" after losing her mother to breast cancer in 2011.

Trisha Yearwood turns heads with a slimmer look at 62

Yearwood stepped out on Monday, October 19, 2026, at the Best Friends Animal Society Gala in New York City, looking stunning in a navy pantsuit paired with a ruffled white shirt. She completed her look with a shoulder-length bob, a fresh change from her signature long blonde hair. The She's in Love with the Boy singer shared photos from the event on Instagram, writing:

The appearance brought renewed attention to the Grammy winner's years-long health and weight loss journey, which she has discussed publicly over the years. In 2013, Yearwood revealed that she had lost around 30 pounds and dropped two dress sizes over four months. She also stressed that maintaining her progress required consistency rather than a quick fix. She told PEOPLE at the time:

"I don't think you can name one diet I haven't done. I'm that girl who buys every magazine where somebody's lost 30 lbs. I guess a part of me didn't want to hear that it's just really hard work!"

Yearwood told the outlet that she focused on eating low-fat, low-sugar foods about 90 per cent of the time while allowing herself favorite treats in moderation. She also credited Zumba classes, which she attended at least three times a week, with helping her become more active. However, her weight kept fluctuating over the years.

Trisha Yearwood once opened up about losing her mother and turning to food

Behind Yearwood's changing relationship with food was a period of grief. After losing her mother, Gwen, to breast cancer in October 2011, the singer spiraled and adopted unhealthy eating habits. In a 2013 interview with CBS News, the singer explained that she had spent time living with her mother during her illness. After the loss, eating became a way for her to cope with her emotions. She recalled:

"My mom passed away from breast cancer in October of 2011. I lived with her for a couple of months during that time. And I ate. That was my coping mechanism, you know? I just ate. And for that whole year, I just didn't care."

Yearwood eventually reached a point when she realized she wanted to feel healthier and have more energy. She described becoming "tired of feeling tired" before deciding to make changes. But her journey was anything but smooth. She told Parade in 2017:

"I think I'm like every woman who struggles with her weight. I have ups and downs, and sometimes I'm 'in the zone,' and sometimes I am 'off the wagon!' I wish there was a quick fix, but the truth is what none of us really want to hear. It's about eating less and moving more, and it takes time. It takes a lot less time to gain it than it does to lose it."

Trisha's perspective also shifted after a trip to Haiti with Habitat for Humanity. Speaking to Good Housekeeping, she recalled feeling uncomfortable about her weight while visiting a place where some people struggled to find their next meal. She said, "I realized I was tired of losing the same few pounds, tired of complaining about it. I felt, 'Just do it, or shut up about it.'"

Yearwood has also credited her husband, country superstar Garth Brooks, with supporting her regardless of her size. She previously told Good Housekeeping that he never made her feel bad about her weight and encouraged her to see herself as he did; rather, he kept assuring her she was beautiful. Brooks himself even lost 20 lbs while supporting his wife in her health journey.

Beyond music, Yearwood has built a career around food. She published her cookbook, Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen, in 2008 and launched Trisha's Southern Kitchen in 2012. Over the years, the singer has lost around 30 to 55 pounds.

Now, at 62, Trisha Yearwood looks at least a decade younger with her incredible transformation. What are your thoughts on her stunning weight loss journey?
