South sensation, Vijay Thalapathy has been making headlines because of his troubled marriage to Sangeetha Sornalingam. For the uninitiated, the actor-turned-politician’s wife, Sangeetha, filed for divorce from her husband, at the Chengalpattu Family Court. However, the reason behind the divorce was a bit shocking as she cited that Vijay had an extramarital affair with an actress. After Sangeetha’s claim surfaced online, social media users connected the dots and found that Vijay and his Ghilli co-star, Trisha Krishnan, were on vacation in Norway. Amid this, Trisha’s old statement on divorce resurfaced.
While Vijay Thalapathy and Sangeetha Sornalingam’s trouble in marital paradise made headlines, the former Trisha Krishnan’s alleged affair became the talk of the town. In a 2016 interview with journalist, Sreedhar Pillai for IndiaGlitz, Trisha got candid about her marriage and divorce resurfaced online. During the conversation, Trisha mentioned that she would think 100 times before getting married. The actress shared that she doesn’t want to hurt someone or live an unhappy life. She also shared some examples of couples who had been in an unhappy marriage. The actress highlighted that she was okay with falling in love, but marriage was secondary for her. She was quoted as saying:
"I want to feel whether this is the person I can live with for the rest of my life because I don’t believe in divorce. I don’t want to go in for a divorce when I get married and I’m someone who will. I will think 100 times before marriage. I don’t want to end up hurting someone else or living an unhappy life. I know tons of married couples around me who are in it for all the wrong reasons. They are extremely unhappy. I don’t want to be in such a marriage. I want to fall in love. Marriage is secondary, but I definitely want to meet my companion—that I’m very particular about."

For the unversed, in 2015, Trisha Krishna exchanged rings with Chennai-based businessman, Varun Manian. However, the actress called off their engagement within five months. Speaking about the following, Trisha once, in an interview with Onmanorama, said that the person whom she was supposed to marry asked her to leave acting, and thus she made the decision to call off the wedding. The actress mentioned that she would take a break only when she got pregnant. She also expressed her wish to act until her last breath. She was quoted as saying:
"That’s why my wedding was called off. The person I was supposed to marry asked me to stop acting. Instead of films, I chose to put a full stop to my engagement. I will only take a break when I get pregnant. If I am not offered lead roles, I will do characters that suit my image, but I won’t move away from the film industry. My wish is to act until my last breath."

On February 27, 2026, the nation was shocked to hear that Vijay’s marriage to Sangeetha had hit a rough patch, and the latter had filed for divorce. According to a report by The Indian Express, the star wife has filed for divorce from Vijay at the Chengalpattu Family Court. Her petition was filed under Section (1)(a), (b), (d) and Sections 36 & 37 of the Special Marriage Act, 1954. In her divorce plea, Sangeetha mentioned that her husband, Vijay, had an extramarital affair, and she had come to know about it in 2021.
