Renowned actress, Sophie Turner is back at it again! In case you haven't caught up with the news yet, Prime Video just dropped the first look at the actress in her ‘Lara Croft' avatar from the upcoming Tomb Raider series a while ago. Based on the popular video game franchise of the same name, the series was first greenlit in 2024. Reports of Sophie's involvement in the series first appeared in November of the same year, and ever since then, anticipation for the live-action show has continued to grow. It is worth mentioning that prior to the Game of Thrones actress, Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander had also taken on the role of ‘Lara Croft' in its film adaptations.
On January 16, 2026, Prime Video surprised fans by posting a picture of actress, Sophie Turner on their official Instagram account. However, it wasn't any random picture, but one in which the actress can be seen dressed up like ‘Lara Croft' for the upcoming Tom Raider series. The image shows Sophie sporting a green tank top and brown shorts. For those who have played the Tom Raider games on PlayStation, they might have already noticed that Sophie's look draws heavily on the fictional archaeologist's in-game outfits. To complete the look, the actress also wore a pair of dark sunglasses. Confirming that the show is officially in production, the streamer captioned the post:
“Get your artifacts out. Lara's on her way…#TombRaider #WardrobeTest.”

No sooner did Sophie Turner's first look as ‘Lara Croft' drop than fans took to the comment section to share their opinion about the same. While some fans majorly praised her looks, others weren't too keen on her appearance. One social media user wrote, “Oh my god! She looks perfect! I didn't expect they would go with a look so classic!” A second comment read, “She looks incredible. Sophie is going to surprise a lot of people.” Another fan wrote, “So where are the people who were saying that Sophie doesn't fit for the role of Lara?” One user even mentioned how they miss Angelina Jolie but still think Sophie pulled off the look, writing, “That looks pretty good. But I miss Angelina Jolie, Angelina Jolie forever.”

A comment read, “I’m sorry but this looks like a cosplay. I really hope this isn't the final look.” Another social media user wrote, “I like the wardrobe…but she doesn't look the part imo. Anyways, I wish her good luck. Apparently, I am the only one who does not like this casting choice. So it must be me.” One person penned a long note and wrote:
“Sophie Turner is a very beautiful woman, don't get me wrong on that but....other than the outfit that looks like the old games, her face doesn't fit to the image of lara that i have in my mind, the recent movie tomb raider had a very looks accurate actress for Lara, her looks fit very well with the character but Sophie? Mmmh I don't know...the only thing that can make me happy about her casting is the way she played as Lara.”

In addition to Sophie Turner, the upcoming Tomb Raider series, which will stream on Prime Video, features a star-studded cast. Some of them include Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie, Sigourney Weaver, Bill Paterson, and many more. Actor, Martin Bob-Semple will be seen playing the well-known character from the original video game, ‘Zip’, who is ‘Lara Croft's' tech support and close friend. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Crystal Dynamics, and Legendary Television, the new series will be directed by Jonathan Van Tulleken. The series is created and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. He will also serve as an executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge. It is worth noting that, to date, no announcement has been made about when the Tomb Raider series starring Sophie Turner will be released.
