According to multiple law enforcement sources, Andrew Truelove was born in 1985. He has a lot of pending criminal cases in New York courts against his name. Andrew was unarmed when he had brushed past security to enter the NBC sets via a stairwell.
Andrew wanted to harm Al Roker, but luck was not on his side, as the veteran weather host was not found in the backstage room. Andrew shouted a racist slur at Craig before he was detained. He was immediately taken into custody by the law enforcement officials. The New York Police Department released a statement saying:
"On Thursday, July 16, 2026, at approximately 0919 hours, it was reported to officers that there was a disorderly person inside 30 Rockefeller Center, within the confines of the Midtown North Precinct. Officers responded and placed an unidentified individual into custody. There were no injuries reported. The investigation remains ongoing.”
NBC News' Today, in a statement, had also confirmed that there was a security incident this morning at the Today show studio. It stated that Andrew entered an unauthorized area in the vestibule near Studio 1A. The person approached anchor Craig Melvin, who alerted security. The individual was detained and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident. It further read:
"There was no altercation, and no one was injured. TODAY is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter. NBC and TODAY take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously. We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios.”
