Tim Curry Had A Complex Relationship With His Mother And Sister, Was Devastated After Their Deaths

He was 80 years old when he took his last breath. Reports revealed that Tim died on August 25, 2026, at his home in Los Angeles. Before his death, Tim opened up about the loss of his mother and sister within a short period of time.
Tim Curry opened up about the death of his mother and sister in his memoir
Tim Curry went through quite a difficult time after he lost both his mother and his sister one after the other. In his 2025 memoir titled Vagabond, Tim revealed that his mom, Patricia Curry, died from Melanoma in the summer of 1999. At that time, she was 80 years old, an age that Tim said she always wanted to live to. Recalling how he would take care of her, Tim said:
“My mother had always said that she wanted to live to be eighty. And she was nothing if not determined. So of course she did make it to eighty - and that was her exact age when she died, due to melanoma. I tried to help take care of her whenever I could, but she did not want me to be her nurse, nor was I particularly eager to fill that role.”
Tim had admitted that he and his mother had a pretty complicated relationship. But in her final months, Tim got a call from his mother in which she said, “I don't want to be here anymore.” While he didn't really get what she meant by that back then, he still decided to get on a plane and show up every day that he could.
Tim noted that after his mom died, his sister, Judy, began speaking much less about her. They both understood each other's positions when it came to their mother. He wrote:
“Whenever Judy and I were together, whether we were spreading Mum’s ashes or driving through towns in Norfolk or whatever, our time was so special that the last thing either of us wanted to do was bring our family into it - either physically or through conversation.”
Tim shared that he was sure it would have been very cathartic for both him and his sister if they ever got the opportunity to sit down for a real conversation about their mother. He said that he would have also loved to know about his father through her.
The actor wished that he had asked her what it was like to be the apple of his eye and what it was like to lose him. But Tim kept those thoughts to himself as neither of them needed to revisit “all that hurt.”
Unfortunately, two years after his mother died, Tim Curry had to go through an even more difficult time with his sister passing away. Tim revealed that Judy had died from a brain tumor at the age of 60. She was diagnosed with the tumor when she was still in her 50s and had “fought with the fucker for a few very tough years.” Tim noted:
“There is no way to articulate how it felt to lose my sister, who was in many ways my only lifeline back to myself and my roots. I was shattered. I was untethered by the loss, and my brother-in-law and her children were devastated, as to be expected. I still speak to my sis sometimes, though she died more than twenty years ago.”
Tim Curry’s death
Tim Curry, who was best known for playing ‘Dr. Frank-N-Futer’ in the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, died late at night on August 25, 2026, in his LA home. According to reports, police responded to his home at 11:23 p.m. The Los Angeles Fire Department was also called in for a medical emergency, and Tim Curry was later pronounced dead at the scene. It was revealed that no foul play was suspected in the case.
