Tiger Woods is once again in the spotlight, but this time not for golf. The 15-time major winner was arrested on a DUI charge on Friday near his home in Jupiter Island, Florida, after a crash involving his car. Just a day later, during the PGA Tour’s Houston Open, people in the crowd were seen wearing t-shirts with his mugshot printed on them, along with the words “FreeTiger.” The moment added another layer to an already serious situation.
The incident happened on Friday, March 28, 2026, when Tiger Woods was driving his Land Rover. Reports confirmed that his vehicle clipped a truck and then rolled over. Even though the crash looked serious, he managed to crawl out without major injuries. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek shared important details about the case. He revealed that Tiger Woods was moving at high speed at the time of the crash and was believed to be under the influence of “some type of medication or drug.” At the same time, alcohol was ruled out after Woods registered zero on a breath test.

However, the situation remained unclear because Woods refused to take a urine test. This meant officials could not confirm exactly what substance may have been involved. Later that night, Tiger Woods was released on bail after spending around eight hours in jail, which is required under Florida law for such cases. He was then seen leaving in a black SUV. The very next day, during the third round of the Houston Open, a few people in the crowd turned up wearing white t-shirts printed with his mugshot. The shirts also carried the hashtag “FreeTiger.” A Getty Images photographer captured the moment as the group stood together posing, with drinks in their hands, making the scene even more noticeable during the live event.

This is not the first time Tiger Woods has faced a situation like this. His earlier DUI case happened back in 2017 in Florida. At that time, he later shared that he had taken a mix of prescription medicines, which affected him in a serious way. Over the years, his body has gone through a lot. The 2021 crash in California left his right leg badly damaged. Before and after that, he has had multiple back surgeries, including a disc replacement in September, during recovery from a torn Achilles. Because of these health issues, his time on the golf course has already been limited. Tiger Woods has not played in an official tournament since the 2024 British Open.

Still, he recently appeared in his indoor golf league, TGL, just three days before this latest crash. There had been early talk about a possible return at the Masters next month, but even before the incident, that looked unlikely. Now, after this arrest and crash, that possibility looks even more uncertain. Tiger Woods still has 82 PGA Tour wins, which is the joint highest ever. He is one of the biggest names in golf, but moments like this keep bringing focus back to his personal struggles instead of his game. It also raises more concerns about what comes next for him.
