They Will Kill You begins with a building that feels awfully wrong

The building itself is immediately off, there are locked exits, ritualistic decor and residents with strange behaviour. They are more like watchers than neighbours, signalling that something terribly wrong is happening to the people there. 'Asia's' first night further confirms that the theory, after a masked intruder breaks into her room, including figures played by Tom Felton and Heather Graham.

What follows is the film's most striking early sequence: a fast, brutal fight in which 'Asia' dismantles them with improvised weapons. However, in a twist of events, it lands just as quickly-every attacker she kills begins to regenerate, leading to limbs being reconnected, bodies reassembled, and death becomes meaningless.

The cost of immortality in They Will Kill You

The revelation that no one can actually die reframes the entire film. The residents led by 'Lilith' have made a pact that granted them immortality. The Virgil is not just a building, but it's a controlled ecosystem where sacrifice, ritual, and wealth intersect. And, unfortunately for 'Asia', she is not just an intruder but part of a system that feeds on itself. So, as she moves floor by floor, the structure becomes more symbolic than literal, leaving her with no idea of where she is. 

'Maria' is the emotional core of They Will Kill You

'Asia' soon learns that her sister, 'Maria' is not simply trapped but integrated into the system, working as one of the maids. However, she is unaware of the fact that she was supporting a cult's operations. However, the deeper 'Asia' goes, the more the mission shifts from rescue to confrontation.

The unravelling of 'Lilith's' system

The climax centres on 'Lilith', who embodies the deal with the devil that sustains the building. 'Asia' unveils the unending cycle because the cult cannot be killed by conventional means, as the real power lies in the pact itself. However, the film deliberately avoids a clean resolution. Which leads 'Asia' to disrupt the structure, exposing its mechanics, instead of fully breaking the system. 

They Will Kill You ends in survival without victory

Unlike most films that end with a conclusive 'happily ever after' or a 'state of doom', They Will Kill You ends on an unresolved note. 'Asia' reaches 'Maria' and is able to pull her out of immediate danger, but the greater problem still remains intact. The immortality pact is still active, as the building still stands, symbolising that Virgil is not a one-off anomaly but part of something larger. The film's core idea is that immortality removes consequence, and without consequence, violence becomes spectacle rather than resolution.

However, 'Asia's' journey is not about defeating evil, but confronting a system that cannot be dismantled, not easily, to say the least. Her personal arc includes several themes: facing guilt, protecting her sister, and more clearly resolving the external conflict. The lack of finality is intentional. The cult's regeneration mirrors the film's structure: no matter how many times 'Asia' fights, the cycle resets.

Will there be a sequel to They Will Kill You?

They Will Kill You delivers intense, stylised action and strong performances from the cast. However, it struggles to maintain the depth a topic like this requires. While the immortality twist is clever, the violence eventually feels repetitive. The ending is neither fully happy nor tragic. 'Asia' survives and reconnects with her sister, but the larger threat remains unresolved, leaving a lingering sense of unfinished business. The sense of ambiguity, while often required, could prove to be the perfect plot to build on here, given the positive response the film has received despite its flaws.

While a sequel has not been announced, questions about what might happen next have kept the audience intrigued. If it moves forward, it would likely explore the wider network behind The Virgil, expand on the pact's origins, and push 'Asia' into a broader fight beyond a single building. However, for now, it is just a story with open-ended potential, and the question of its sequel keeps the audience on their toes.
