While on air, NBC’s Football Night in America host Maria Taylor recalled during a discussion how back in April 2026, Mike Vrabel said that he took ‘accountability’ for his actions after his photos with longtime NFL insider Dianna Russini. Mike had left the Patriots on the final day of the NFL draft, claiming that he was going to be with his family. He even went to counseling before returning a few days later.
Now that camp is open, Maria asked the three-time Super Bowl champion Devin McCourty what the impact would be on the team. Devin explained:
“The look for Mike Vrabel. They look for him when things get tough. Do they still feel the same way? His character has been tested. Will this team follow him wherever he goes? That's gonna be tested right away, Week 1.”
Meanwhile, Mike Tomlin, the former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, added that when the games begin, the only thing that will matter is winning. Getting a quick start in the season would give the Patriots a chance to keep the Mike Vrabel cheating rumors at bay. However, the opposite would be true if they didn't manage to win. In his words:
“And I'll tell you. When games start, winning matters. And, so, if they get off to a fast start, they've got a chance to quiet some of that noise. If they don't, that noise could get extremely loud.”
All about Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel’s alleged cheating scandal
It all started in March 2026 when Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini were spotted together at an adults-only luxury hotel in Sedona, Arizona. This was amid the NFL Owners Meetings, and when the locals recognized the Patriots head coach, they clicked the duo’s pictures, which later ended up in the news.
The pictures showed Mike and Dianna hugging, holding hands, and relaxing by a swimming pool. However, as media outlets kept digging deeper into the pair’s relationship, it was soon revealed that the things between them dated quite a few years back, to March 2020. At that time, Mike Vrabel was the Tennessee Titans head coach while Dianna Russini was the team’s beat reporter.
According to reports, the duo was pictured cozying up to each other at a New York club. In one of the snaps, it appeared as if Dianna was leaning in to kiss Mike. Later, in June 2021, they were spotted once again heading out for a boat day in Tennessee. What made things different this time was that the former NFL reporter was pregnant with her first child, Michael, whom she shares with her husband, Kevin Goldschmidt.
As a result of the cheating scandal, Dianna resigned from her job at The Athletic. However, despite what many had predicted, her relationship with her husband seems to be going fine, at least on the outside. Most recently, she was seen enjoying family time on a cruise. An eyewitness revealed that she “blew her husband a kiss at one point across the pool.” They added:
“They seemed to be engaged with one another. They were very family-oriented with their kids. They took the kids to the Splash Pad together and were laughing at the pool.”
