It may seem sexist to some feminist readers if I said that the way a woman looks will determine her success in the marriage mart, to a great extent. That does not mean that it is not true.
Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley recently conducted a study to find out what men first notice when they first meet someone new. I am willing to bet that some of the findings will surprise you!
Fact no. 1: Men generally do not notice blemishes or pimples on your face
We have all been there. What woman hasn’t woken up with a huge, ripe and juicy pimple on her face? Do you think that a little facial acne turns men off?
If you do, then this study ought to reassure you. Researchers found that 84 per cent of men do not notice flaws or blemishes on a woman’s skin upon first meeting someone new. Well, not unless you keep fidgeting and drawing attention to your pimples. I mean, have you ever seen anything more disgusting than a guy who pops his pimples in public? I know I haven’t. Most guys probably feel the same way about girls, too.
Fact no. 2: Men don’t like huge bags
The current fashion trend for women to lug around huge bags, filled with bottles of moisturizers, lipstick, eye liner, jackets and God knows what else is something that I just don’t get. This study proves that 54 per cent of all men agree with me. Perhaps it is because most men tend to view those heavy bags as a metaphor for all the emotional baggage that you presumably carry around with you? I am not a professional psychologist, so I can only speculate.
But I digress. Lesson learnt: Unless you are going on a date directly from work or class, don’t carry one of these rug sacks pretending to be a handbag with you.

Fact no. 3: Men notice the way you walk
According to conventional wisdom, the first thing that men notice about a woman is how hot she is. That is what I used to think too, but this study proves something different. In fact, Marilyn Monroe reputedly chopped three quarters of an inch (about 2 cm) off the heel of her left shoe to emphasize the wiggle in her walk – and it seemed to work pretty well for her!
To be completely honest with you, that wasn’t all the study uncovered. What a jaw dropping 76 per cent of all men notice when they first meet a woman is the shape of her….. umm, rear end, if you get my drift. And a sexy, swaying stride is the best way to emphasize this, which is why it is necessary for you to pay attention to the way you walk if you want to attract that guy on your first day.
Do you have any secrets of your own to share, gleaned from observing and cataloging the behavior of the male of the species? If you do, share!
