Daughter of veteran actress, Tanuja and filmmaker, Shomu Mukherjee, Tanishaa Mukerji always wanted to be an actress. Following the footsteps of her star superstar sister, Kajol, Tanishaa had made her Bollywood debut with the film, Sssshhh... in 2003. With films like Neal ‘n’ Nikki, Sarkar, Tango Charlie, Tanishaa created her own name in the industry. She had also participated in shows like Bigg Boss 7 and Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7.
Tanishaa shares a very warm bond with her sister, Kajol, the sister-duo never misses a chance to shower their love on each other. On Raksha Bandhan 2019, Kajol had shared a beautiful picture with Tanishaa and had proved that protection is not gender biased. Along with the picture, she had written, “Who says protection is male and only one sided? Flexing my big sis muscles this Raksha Bandhan! #happyrakshabandhan.”

Ever since Tanishaa made her debut, she was constantly compared to her sister, Kajol and was expected to be just like her. In an interview with ETimes, she opened about the same and said, “There have been points in life in the beginning of my career when everybody looked at me and expected me to look like Kajol, act like Kajol and beat Kajol. I was like, ‘I can’t be her. She’s got green eyes, much taller than me, curly hair and she’s nothing like me.’”
Tanishaa further stated that her sister, Kajol, must also have faced the same ordeal when she had made her debut. Revealing that Kajol too might have faced comparisons with their mother, Tanuja, Tanishaa continued, “I am sure she must have also had it when mom (Tanuja) was concerned. We’ve dealt with that and luckily for us we have a great mother, who has this amazing confidence. She would tell us, ‘you need to shine, you are a person and you need to be yourself.”

When asked whether the comparisons bothered her, the stunning actress revealed, “These things would affect you when you are younger. Even now when people draw comparisons, I feel sad for them. It might sound a bit egoistical on my part but I don’t compute it in my brain. No two people in this world can be compared. Not a single should can be compared to another soul. We all have our own individualities. The moment you start cherishing, comparisons go out of the window.”
On March 3, 2021, Tanishaa turned 43, and her didi, Kajol, had penned the sweetest birthday wish for her. She had taken to her IG handle and had shared a video consisting of some unseen photos with her baby sister, Tanishaa and had shared how they are similar and yet different. She had written, “Same to same phir bhi alag. Happy birthday my darling... wish you one ton of love, luck with a side health and wealth!”
