Over the years, we have seen so many iconic directors, producers, and actors agreeing on one thing and that is Tabu is hands-down the most underrated actress in the history of Hindi cinema. Unfortunately, the actress never got her due from the industry despite giving so many powerful performances in her career. The actress made her acting debut as an actress in the Telugu film, Coolie No.1. However, as a child actress, her first credited role was in the film, Hum Naujawan, in which she portrayed the character of late legendary actor, Dev Anand’s daughter.

Since then, Tabu has never looked back and worked in a series of hit films. Although she suffered a lot of setbacks in her acting journey, the way she has transformed herself during different transitions in the film industry is seriously commendable. From working in films to featuring in web series, Tabu is finally enjoying recognition in her 50s. Some of Tabu’s best films are Chandni Bar, Virasat, Vijaypath, Maachis, Astitva, Maqbool, Haider, The Namesake, Drishyam, Andhadhun, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and so on.

When Tabu revealed how she lost chances of working in Aamir Khan's Mann and Govinda's Kunwara

Once in an old interview with Filmfare back in 2001, the critically-acclaimed actress, Tabu talked about her acting career in the Hindi film industry. The actress reflected on her journey so far and shared how she lost the chance to work opposite Aamir Khan in the film, Mann. Tabu admitted that before Manisha Koirala was shortlisted for the role, it was she who had already done the photoshoot with Aamir.

The actress admitted that she thought that she had grabbed the role and was happy. However, after some time, she realised that she didn’t get the role. When Tabu was asked to reveal why she was turned down for the film, the actress clearly stated that she didn’t know what happens behind the scenes. Sharing her thoughts about the same, she said:

"See I would have loved to do a film with Aamir. We even did a photoshoot together for Mann. I’m clueless about what happened after that, I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes."

Further, in the same interview, when Tabu was asked whether she had suffered more instances of groupism or favouritism in Bollywood in her career. In response to the same, Tabu recalled the time when she was the first choice for the film, Kunwara, starring Govinda. When the actress was questioned about the reason why Urmila Matondkar eventually replaced her in the film, Tabu hinted at manipulations being at the centre of this controversy.

However, Tabu admitted that she had no grudges against anyone in the industry. The actress admitted that she had suffered so many disappointments and humiliations in her acting career but was always positive about her future. She explained:

"It would have been great fun to do 'Kunwara' with Chi Chi. I’ve gone through my share of disappointment and humiliation. But I hold no grudge, they get you nowhere."
