Born as Tabassum Fatima Hashmi, Tabu is one of the most bankable actresses in Bollywood. From mainstream to independent cinema, Tabu has often portrayed women-centric characters and has been lauded for her brilliant performances. Be it a suicide bomber in Maachis or a mistress in Maqbool, Tabu has never failed to leave her magic on screen.
Talking about her personal life, Tabu was born in a Hyderabadi Muslim family, and she is the niece of Shabana Azmi, Tanvi Azmi and Baba Azmi. Tabu’s name has been linked with many celebs, but the actress is still single at 51. In a throwback interview, Tabu revealed the reason behind being single.
Tabu shares a special bond with actor Ajay Devgn. In a 2017 interview with Mumbai Mirror, Tabu opened up about her relationship status and blamed Ajay for her single status. Elaborating on the same, she had stated:
“Yes, Ajay and I have known each other for 25 years. He was my cousin Sameer Arya’s neighbour and close buddy, a part of my growing up years and that has laid the foundation of our relationship. When I was young, Sameer and Ajay would spy on me, follow me around and threaten to beat up any boys who are caught talking to me. They were the big bullies and if I am single today, it is because of Ajay. I hope he repents and regrets what he did."
In a career spanning more than four decades, Tabu’s name has been linked with many celebs. The first serious affair in Tabu’s life was with actor, Sanjay Kapoor. The duo started dating during the shooting of their film but parted ways after a short period.
Another famous name which has been associated with Tabu is South Indian actor, Akkineni Nagarjuna. Nagarjuna was already married when he started dating Tabu, and the two were never vocal about it. After ten long years of being in a relationship with Nagarjuna, Tabu realised that he is not going to leave his wife. She took a firm step, and she broke up with him. Tabu was seeking stability in her relationship but Nagarjuna, who was already married twice, was hesitant to commit for the third time.
Tabu believes that 'single' isn't a bad word and accepts that she has learnt her love lessons in a rather hard way. In a throwback interview with the Hindustan Times, Tabu had said:
"I do not think single is a bad word. There may have been a stigma attached to being single in the past, but not anymore. Your happiness comes from many things unconnected with the status of your relationship. On your own, you can deal with your aloneness, but with a wrong partner, what could follow would be worse than any kind of loneliness."
Well, Tabu is one of the most desired women, who has proved that she doesn’t need a man to lead a happy and peaceful life!
