Sydney Sweeney's Father Reacted Strongly To Her 'Euphoria' NSFW Scene, 'My Dad...Walked Out'

Euphoria Season 3 premiered on April 12, 2026, following which, its lead stars, Sydney Sweeney (playing 'Cassie'), Jacob Elordi (playing 'Nate'), and Zendaya (playing 'Rue') are once again in focus. The show has been leading fan discussion forums due to its controversial storyline, particularly 'Cassie's' OnlyFans puppy roleplay and her cosplay as a baby, wearing nothing but a diaper. Amid the backlash surrounding her role, her comment on her on-screen nudity and her family's reaction to her racy role are in focus.

Sydney Sweeney shared her father's strong reaction to her nude scenes in Euphoria

Sydney Sweeney's Euphoria character, 'Cassie Howard' has been over-the-top and controversial since the series' first season. The actress faced intense online scrutiny due to her character's unjustifiable actions and for portraying adult scenes and nudity. During one of her interviews, she discussed the same, sharing how her parents and grandparents reacted to her scenes where she's almost unclad. The 28-year-old actress was quoted by Us Weekly as saying that her mom was supportive of her work and even visited her on sets; however, things were different with her dad. She said:

"My mom visited me on set at the time, so she knew the story, and I talked to her a lot about it ...my dad didn't. Yeah, I didn't prepare my dad...at all."

Sydney usually maintains a good relationship with her father; however, she didn't know how to bring up the topic of her racy scenes. She revealed that her dad watched Euphoria with her grandparents, and that, too, without telling Sydney. However, the result wasn't that great, as when her nude scenes appeared, the two men turned it off and took off. Only her grandmother, who is also a "big supporter" of hers, didn't have such a drastic reaction. She was rather supportive of the actress, just as the latter's mother was. Sydney Sweeney's exact words were:

"When I talk to my dad, it's usually not about work. We talk, like, father-daughter conversations. He decided he was going to watch it, without telling me, with his parents. My dad and my grandpa turned it off and walked out. But my grandma is a big supporter of mine. She's a big fan of mine. Actually, I bring her, usually, all over the world to my different sets and I make her an extra."

Sydney Sweeney opened up about the criticism she faced due to her Euphoria character

Sydney once opened up about the audience's reaction to her racy role in Euphoria in a 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She expressed frustration with how audiences blend her personal identity with the roles she plays, specifically her portrayal of 'Cassie Howard' in Euphoria. She even felt that her on-screen nudity led to her being reduced to a "sex symbol" label that overshadows her performance as an actor. She feels that viewers sometimes forget that, behind an on-screen character, there is a real person with a distinct personality.

Sydney Sweeney mentioned she wouldn't be able to move on from the hate she received due to her Euphoria role; however, she also stated that she would keep doing such roles in the future, as it just widened her scope as an actor. She was quoted by The Hollywood Reporter as saying:

"People forget that I'm playing a character, they think, 'Oh, she gets naked on-screen, she's a sex symbol. And I can't get past that. I have no problems with those scenes, and I won't stop doing them, but I wish there was an easier way to have an open conversation about what we're assuming about actors in the industry."
