Supriya Pathak and Pankaj Kapur are one of the most loved couples in the Hindi film industry. The veteran actors not only spread the magic of their acting skills onscreen, but are also loved for their humble nature and keep giving couple goals. For the unversed, Supriya and Pankaj tied the knot with each other in 1988. Together, they are blessed with two children, Sanah Kapur and Ruhaan Kapur. However, now, in a recent interview, Supriya opened up about how her mother was completely against her marriage with Pankaj.
Supriya Pathak graced Twinkle Khanna's YouTube chat show, The Icons along with her sibling, Ratna Pathak. During the conversation, Supriya opened up about her marital bliss with her husband, Pankaj Kapur. Revealing their love story, Supriya mentioned that she met Pankaj for the first time when they were doing a film, Naya Mausam together. However, the film never hit the theatres. Afterwards, the two of them found a common ground which blossomed their friendship into love. Soon, they confessed their love to one another. In Supriya's words:
“We (Supriya and Pankaj) were doing a film together, and that film was made only for us to meet, because it never got released. We just hit it off. We both had a lot of backlog and history but we just happened. By the time we finished the film, we confessed to each other and I went my way, and he went his, and then we got back in Mumbai together. That film never saw the light of the day.”

Further, in the same conversation, Supriya revealed how many people including her mother, the late actor, Dina Pathak was against her relationship with Pankaj. Supriya mentioned that her mother used to say that she made a mistake by choosing Pankaj as her life partner. However, it was only her sister, Ratna, who supported her decision. Supriya said:
“Everybody tried, and I didn’t listen to anybody. I had made up my mind. My mother, till the last few years of her life, still tried changing my life, even after two children. She kept saying that ‘he will leave you’. It has been so many years, and she still kept saying, ‘You made a mistake’. I think Ratna didi supported me.”
Ahead of their marriage, Supriya and Pankaj, both had a common background of broken relationships. Pankaj was earlier married to well-acclaimed classical dancer, Neelima Azeem and together, they were blessed with a son, Shahid Kapoor. On the other hand, Supriya too was divorced from a previous marriage which she did impulsively at the age of 22. And by the time, Supriya and Pankaj met each other, they had already parted ways with their respective first spouses. However, after their marriage, Supriya shared a beautiful bond with her step-son, Shahid Kapoor. Proof of the same is often found in their public appearances.

In a conversation with a leading portal, Supriya had always honoured Pankaj's past. She mentioned how Shahid was always Pankaj's priority and when she had met the Haider actor for the first time, they gradually started bonding with each other. Apart from this, Supriya and Pankaj also faced several rumours when they began getting romantically inclined towards each other. One of which was about Pankaj being an alcoholic abuser. To this, Supriya once mentioned in an interview that she don't have any problems with Pankaj as she met him with a clean slate.
