Indian cricketer, KL Rahul has become the talk of the town due to his poor performance on the cricket field. The cricket buffs are criticising him, while his fans are disappointed by his bad form. However, KL Rahul's father-in-law, who has been his biggest cheerleader, has once again won our hearts with his comment on the cricketer's underperformance lately. For the unversed, after four years of dating, KL Rahul got married to Athiya Shetty on January 23, 2023, in a South Indian wedding ceremony.
In an interview with Siddharth Kanan, Suniel Shetty opened up about his son-in-law, KL Rahul's underperformance on the cricket ground and shared that he knows his children are fighters. Reflecting on the same, the actor said that he can't teach KL Rahul to play cricket as he is playing for the country and commenting on his performance would not be suitable. Suniel said:
"We don’t discuss about failure or not doing well because we all know that they (his children) are fighters. We show more love. We talk about everything else in the world and try to take our minds off it. I can’t teach KL Rahul how to play cricket. He is playing for the country, not playing gully cricket or for somebody to comment and say ‘aise khelo, waise khelo’. If I would have said it, that would have been for gully (street) cricket.”

Being a doting father-in-law, Suniel Shetty mentioned that KL Rahul is going through a tough phase and he is willing to work hard. Sharing that this phase will pass, the actor added that we should wait and let the cricketer's bat do the talking. Heaping praises on his damad, Suniel added:
“I can see a young boy going through a tough time but willing to stand up there and realise and work hard. Aur baat kya karega, balla hi baat krega baaki to baat karke fayeda hi nahi hai. This is not a film where as a team we can go out. He has to go out there, face that ball and play and he will, and he continues to do that.”
Earlier, in an interview with the ETimes, Suniel Shetty opened up about his son-in-law, KL Rahul and said that his daughter, Athiya is blessed to have a husband like him. Calling himself a proud father, the actor mentioned that Athiya would learn a lot from Rahul. Praising KL Rahul's calm, respectful, and composed behaviour, the veteran actor stated:
"But then when he rises like a phoenix you feel this is something to be inspired from and this is what the team’s tough boys are. I am a proud father. Blessed is Athiya and blessed is Ahaan because he gets to learn about from him. He is calm, composed, very respectful. I don’t think I could have asked for a better son."
A few weeks back, KL Rahul and his wifey, Athiya Shetty visited the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, and a series of pictures from the same were shared on the internet. In the pictures, the much-in-love couple can be seen seeking blessings from God ahead of Rahul's third test match. For their visit, Athiya opted for a yellow-coloured saree, while her husband donned an orange dhoti with a matching doshala. Athiya and Rahul could be seen praying to God with joined hands and performing puja at the temple.

Apparently, KL Rahul is going through a tough phase in his career right now, and netizens have been blaming his wife, Athiya Shetty, for the same. Moreover, as soon as the pictures surfaced online, netizens were quick to take a nasty dig at the cricketer and trolled him for his bad form.
