Asha Bhosle was one of the most loved voices in the music industry, making her death not just a national but a global loss. The singer who dominated the music industry at the height of her career was described in the media as one of the greatest and most influential faces in Hindi cinema. However, the singer took her last breath on April 12, 2026, and while many were left heartbroken, Sonu Nigam has recently issued a statement sharing why her passing should not be mourned.
Much-loved singer, Sonu Nigam has recently shared a video describing why he doesn't want to cry at the passing of Asha Bhosle. Almost ten days after the singer's demise, Sonu took to his social media platform and reflected on why he believes there is no need to make legendary singer, Asha Bhosle's death a matter of grief and sadness. In the video that has now surfaced online, Sonu can be seen talking to a few people while travelling in a car, sharing his views on the passing of our beloved Asha.

The video begins with Sonu Nigam admitting that he is upset about Asha Bhosle's passing. However, he doesn't want to make it about grief and sadness. He explained that Asha had a full life and worked until the very end. He reasoned that it was a life one should mourn, as she lived the kind of life every artist can only dream of. He was quoted as saying:
"I am sad that she is gone, but I do not want to make it about sadness. She lived a very full life. She worked until the very end. Is this a life to cry for? Every artist dreams of a life like hers, to continue working till the very end."

In the same video, Sonu Nigam added that he, too, wants to live a long life like Asha and have his work remain relevant for all time. He pointed out how they were blessed enough to have the opportunity to share the same room with her. The singer admitted that, if anything, they should celebrate Asha Bhosle's legacy. Calling her his guru, Sonu stated:
"I, too, want to live long and keep my work relevant till the end, just like her. The life she lived is worth saluting. It is our good fortune that we got to spend time with her and learn from her. She was strict, but she had every right. She was our guru."

Asha Bhosle was not just a phenomenal singer, but she made a name for herself in a time when her peers were Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. The singer stood shoulder to shoulder with the legendary names, rightfully earning her place in the music industry. Sonu Nigam also reflected on that and called her the last of an era. He was quoted as saying:
