Captain Smit Machchhar's courageous move saved 180 passengers on Flydubai FZ1073. The Dubai-Tel Aviv flight took off, and soon after that, the co-pilot attempted to hijack the plane. The co-pilot stabbed the captain, Smit Machchhar, and even when he was bleeding severely from the stabbing, he opened the cockpit door, thereby leading passengers, crew members, and off-duty pilots to force their way into the cockpit and subdue the co-pilot, thereby taking control of the horrific situation.

Smit Machchhar revealed how the crew can save a life just a year back, and his words turned true

Smit Machchhar's heroic actions have been praised, and a clip from an interview with the captain last year shows him talking about how the crew can be trained to save lives. In the video, which is from Smit's interview with Zalak Mehta last year, the captain mentioned that when there's an emergency situation mid-air, it would be lucky to have a doctor on board, but if not, the crew is trained enough to save lives. What Smit said a year back turned out to be true.

A dentist was present on Flydubai FZ1073; here's how he tried to save Smit Machchhar

If the reports are to be believed, a dentist was present among the passengers of Flydubai FZ1073, who helped Smit following the terrible attack on him, which left him bleeding. The dentist, named Shota Musaev, was the only doctor on the flight, as reported. The dentist reportedly lives in Rishon LeZion, south of Tel Aviv, Israel, and was returning from China with his wife.

According to The Print, the dentist, Shota, sat for an interview with a news channel, recalled the horrific incident, and said that by the time they reached the cockpit, the captain was already on the floor and was bleeding. To quote the dentist:

"By the time I got there, the pilot was already on the floor. He had lost a lot of blood. We had to stop the bleeding. We managed to stabilise him, stabilise his blood pressure. We realised in about half a minute that it wasn’t just turbulence on the plane. It was an attack. We jumped up and ran forward towards the cockpit. The passengers had partially overpowered the attacker."

According to Shota, when he first reached the cockpit and heard the passengers screaming, his first instinct was to fight the attacker; however, he saw Smit lying on the floor, bleeding, 'especially from his head'. The dentist soon tended to Machchhar’s wounds, stopped the bleeding, and stabilized his condition. Recalling the incident, Shota Mausaev said:

"When I entered the cockpit, the pilot was in a very serious condition, bleeding heavily, especially from the head. He was seriously wounded, but he was communicating with us.”

After the flight took off, Smit was attacked by his co-pilot mid-air. Despite being severely injured, Smit opened the cockpit door, which eventually turned out to be a lifesaver for more than 150 people on Flydubai FZ1073. Recently, experts revealed that Smit might have relied on his 'muscle memory,' and that helped him overcome this emergency situation.

Speaking of Smit's career, he initially planned to join the family business; however, after attending an aviation seminar, he changed his mind. In 2011, he joined SpiceJet and served for 11 years, accumulating over 9,500 flying hours, which include more than 6,400 hours as pilot-in-command. He joined Flydubai in 2022 as a direct-entry captain, based on his prior experience. According to experts, his years of experience actually helped him save lives.

We are proud of Captain Smit Machchhar. He is worthy of being tagged as a 'HERO'!
