Shweta Basu Prasad had tied the knot with her longtime beau, Rohit Mittal on December 13, 2018, as per Bengali and Marwadi rituals. And just a few days before their first wedding anniversary, the actress had announced the news of her divorce with a post on Instagram. On December 9, 2019, Shweta had taken to her Instagram handle and had left everyone shocked with her separation news. She had posted a picture of the long note that can be read as "Hi everyone, Rohit Mittal and I have mutually decided to part our ways and end our marriage. After months of contemplation, we arrived at this decision a few months ago in each other's best interest, as individuals. Not every book is supposed to be read cover to cover, that doesn't mean the book is bad, or one can't read, some things are best left unfinished. Thank you Rohit for the irreplaceable memories and always inspiring me. Have a great life ahead, forever your cheerleader."
Recently, in an interview with SpotboyE, Shweta confirmed that she has filed for her divorce, and stated, "Yes, we have filed for a legal separation." She further shared the reason behind it, and said, "Rohit and I are perfectly cordial and friendly. As I had mentioned in my post it was a mutual decision. He has always been very supportive of my acting career and I am his fan, he is a wonderful filmmaker and I hope we work together someday. We had 5 years of a very loving, healthy and loyal relationship, we just decided to end the marriage and remain, friends, that’s it."
Shweta also stated that she is not hesitant of falling in love again but her current focus is her career. She shared, "Of course I am not closed to the idea of falling in love again but right now my only focus is my career and my work. Love happens organically great, if it doesn’t happen then no problem. Not looking for it." (Also Read: Arjun Kapoor Shares A Happy 'Same 2 Same' Picture With Mom, Mona Kapoor, Looks Exact Replica Of Her)
In the same interview, Shwet opened up on how her career is panning and said, "There are 5 projects that are releasing this year! 2020 I have my hands full. There will be Shukranu opposite Diveyanndu Sharma, a reliance film set in the ’70s during the emergency. Then there is Sudhir Mishra’s Serious Men, a Netflix original film with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. 2 web series and one more film that I had shot for more than a year ago called Jamun with Raghubeer Yadav. In Jamun, I play a cross-eyed girl (squint), Raghubir Yadav plays my father who is trying to find me a groom, but because of her condition, she is not getting a suitor. It’s a nice one."
Coming back to Shweta and Rohit's love story, a source close to the couple had revealed their love story in an interview with The Times of India. A friend had shared that Shweta and Rohit had been in a relationship for four years and moved in together two years before they tied the knot. Their friend had further revealed that it was Shweta, who had proposed to Rohit in Goa first. Later, Rohit had proposed her in Pune (in his hometown).
