Shanthi Priya Says She Didn't Get Support From In-Laws In Career: 'That Was Another Jhatka For Me'

Popular 90s actress of Hindi film industry, Shanthi Priya opened up about her life and career and revealed some lesser-known anecdotes about the same.

Shanthi Priya Says She Didn't Get Support From In-Laws In Career: 'That Was Another Jhatka For Me'

Popular 90s actress, Shanthi Priya made her acting debut with the film, Saugandh. Moreover, she became the first heroine of Akshay Kumar. Later, she went on to work in popular films like Phool Aur Angaare, Maharsi, Mere Sajana Saath Nibhana, Meherbaan, Agni, Andha Intaquam, and many more. However, Shanthi left the world of acting at the peak of her career after getting married to South Indian actor, Siddharth Roy. Currently, she is hitting all the headlines as she has been sharing some lesser-known anecdotes from her younger days.

Shanthi Priya talks about walking out of Sunny Deol's film, Veerta

In the latest interview with Siddharth Kannan, Shanthi Priya opened up about her life, career, marriage and much more. During the same conversation, the show's host asked the actress about the reason behind leaving the Sunny Deol starrer film, Veerta midway. Answering the same, the 90s diva revealed that the whole film was not going as per the narration. She also mentioned that her character was not portrayed as it should have been. Elaborating more about it, Shanthi said:

"Sunny ke saath maine ek picture sign kiya tha Veerta karke, but then whatever the narrations they have told me and then when I went on the set, we were doing some song sequence, and the song sequence was like as if I was some junior dancer kind of a thing. Jaya ji was there, Sunny was there."

Further, in the same conversation, Shanthi revealed that her character was not going as per the film narration. She revealed that she then called her secretary and told him that she didn't want to be part of the film any more. The actress further revealed that after they had a word with the producer of the film, he started giving threats to her. In her words:

"My character was not going as what  was told to me. Maine mere secretary ko call kiya and bola ki sir mujhe nahi lagta hai ki jaisa bataya hai waisa ja raha hai. The we called the producer and said ki no we don't want to do any more. Then fhir thoda sa dhamki diya ki itna footage kiya hai. And I sais haan jo bhi hai dekh lenge."

Shanthi Priya on not getting support from in-laws in her career

In the same conversation, Shanthi Priya talked about her decision to quit acting at the peak of her career. Talking about the same, the actress revealed that her mother-in-law had made it clear in the beginning that if she wishes to continue with her work, she can but must take care of her family, too. Mentioning how her mother-in-law told her that she would not look after her family, Shanthi said she didn't have any 'support system'. Shanthi stated that if her mother-in-law had supported her, her thought process regarding her career would have been different. In her words:

"My mother-in-law was very clear about it. Shaadi karne ke baad continue karna chahte hai to ap kar sakte ho par ghar smbhalna apka hai. We are not going to be taking care of your kids, be in the house, taking care of your house. That was another jhatka jaisa mila nahi."

When Shanthi revealed Akshay Kumar told her she cannot play the heroine

Earlier, in an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Shanthi had opened up about her work experience with Akshay Kumar. Talking about the same, the actress revealed that she had asked for work from Akshay, but he ghosted her. Recalling an anecdote on how she met him on the sets of his film, Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty, Shanthi said that he met her nicely, but when she asked him for work, the actor mentioned that though she looked the same, she cannot play a heroine in a film.
