Shannon Sharpe Suggests Mike Vrabel Shouldn't Be Fired Amid Affair Buzz, '...Between Him And God'

The New England Patriots' head coach, Mike Vrabel and former The Athletic reporter, Dianna Russini, having an alleged extramarital affair is a controversy that just isn't going away. It all came to light when Page Six released photos of the duo being affectionate at a luxury resort in Sedona, Arizona. They could be seen holding hands, hugging, and lounging together with no one else in sight. 

The cheating rumours gained further traction after the publication released more pictures where Mike can be seen kissing Dianna. This has led the duo to come under major public scrutiny. While Dianna has already resigned from her job due to the backlash, many are wondering why the Patriots haven't fired Mike yet. Well, Shannon Sharpe recently gave insight into the same.

Shannon Sharpe, whom you might recognise as a former Denver Broncos player, recently inserted himself into the ongoing talks about the Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel alleged affair controversy. As you might already know, with Dianna resigning from her job as an NFL reporter and insider for The Athletic, several people have begun questioning what's going to happen to Mike's status as a head coach for the Patriots and if the franchise would get rid of him despite there being no in-field problems as such.

With the release of Mike and Dianna's pictures, in which they can be seen kissing, questions about the lack of a decision have become louder. Giving his thoughts on the matter, Shannon said, “Dianna Russini does not work for the Patriots, Mike Vrabel does not work for ESPN.” His statement suggests that the matter would have been taken more seriously had the pair worked together under the same organisation or company.

Shannon also wondered why they needed to fire Mike Vrabel. According to him, it was between Mike and God. He said, “What are you firing Mike Vrabel for? What law of code did he break? He broke his vows. Like I said, that's between him and his wife. That's between him and God. They are not the same.” Several social media users were also of the opinion that there is no way Mike Vrabel is getting fired. 

For instance, one wrote, “I'm ngl the Patriots aren't firing a coach that just took them to the bowl with a 2nd year QB. Russini just gonna have to wear this.” Another user commented, “I agree there's no conflict if the b---- isn't working for the same company.” A third user opined, “If they fired Vrabel, he'd get hired by another team tomorrow.”

It is worth noting that weeks before his aforementioned opinion on the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini controversy, he chose to dismiss the topic when it was brought up due to the lack of context at the time. He said, “Man, we don't do the tabloid. What y'all want us to say? Nothing. You'll read about it tomorrow. I'm about to block everybody if y'all mention Russini or Vrabel again.”

His statement highlights that, at the time, he did not think the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini drama warranted a meaningful discussion. Because Shannon refused to engage with the matter, it drew various reactions from fans. It even led to a response by Chad Johnson, who mirrored Shannon's sentiments. Giving his unfiltered take, Chad wrote on his X handle:

“Who gives a f___ who is f______ who, how is this exciting & newsworthy, it’s s__, everybody is doing it regardless of occupation, we see this same damn story in different work places & it’s the same shocking reaction, police your own p____ & v_____.”
