On October 3, 2021, Shah Rukh Khan and his family got the biggest shock of their lives when his son, Aryan Khan was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau. The NCB had raided a party on a Goa-bound cruise ship and it was alleged that Aryan was booked for the consumption of drugs. Aryan's bail was rejected multiple times.
However, after 26 days, on October 28, 2021, Aryan was granted bail by the Bombay High Court due to lack of evidence and the celeb kid had walked out of the Arthur Road jail. The former Attorney General of India, Mukul Rohatgi, had represented Aryan Khan in the Bombay High court. In his plea to the court, Mukul Rohatgi had said that Aryan was invited on the cruise as a guest, and there was no recovery of drugs from him.

India Today magazine did a cover story titled ‘Lessons From Aryan Khan Case’, in which the Deputy Director-General of NCB, Sanjay Singh talked about the case in detail. He opened up about the conversation he had with Aryan Khan and his father Shah Rukh Khan during the course of the investigation. Sanjay Singh stated that although he didn’t expect many questions from Aryan, the star kid had asked him whether he deserved to be in jail for so many weeks. Confronting him with ‘soul searching’ questions, Aryan had asked:
“Sir, you have painted me as an international drug trafficker, that I finance drug trafficking — aren’t these charges absurd? They did not find any drugs on my person that day and yet they arrested me. Sir, you have done me great wrong and ruined my reputation. Why did I have to spend so many weeks in jail — did I really deserve it?”
Sanjay Singh also talked about the conversation he had with Shah Rukh Khan while investigating the case. He revealed that Shah Rukh was very concerned about Aryan’s physical and mental health after he got arrested. When Sanjay told him that Aryan was not able to sleep, Shah Rukh had requested to be allowed to meet Aryan and to stay with him through the night, but he was not allowed to do so. Sanjay further stated that Shah Rukh was in tears when he alleged that his son was being ‘vilified’ without any evidence and had said:
“We have been painted as some kind of big criminals or monsters who are out to destroy society and we find going to work tough every day.”

After Aryan’s bail on October 28, 2022, Mukul Rohatgi, who had appeared for Aryan had told media that Shah Rukh Khan had tears of joy in his eyes when he had met him after the bail hearing. Talking about the same, the former Attorney General had shared:
"He was a relieved man [today]. He had been a worried man. He used to make his own notes for the case and discuss them with me over the last few days."
Aryan Khan was given a clean chit in the drug case on May 28, 2022, due to lack of substantial evidence.
