5-Year-Old Saylor Hyes' Parents Arrested After She Was Found Dead, Cause Of Death Revealed
A five-year-old non-verbal girl, Saylor Hyes, was found dead in the water where the family was vacationing. Her parents were arrested in connection with her death.

Saylor's family were vacationing in a rented home in Hagley Estates on Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
Saylor Hyles cause of death revealed
For those who don't know, Saylor Hyes was found dead in the water on Augsut 31, 2026. And after one day, her father, John Herb Hyes III (70) and her mother Geordyn Nichole Hyes (31) have been arrested in Carter County, Tennessee. The family reported that their five years old daughter went missing and she was last seen around 9:45 a.m. in the morning.
Talking about Saylor Hyes' cause of death, an autopsy has been scheduled for September 4, 2026 at the Medical University of South Carolina. The cause and the manner of death remain undetermined at the moment. However, there were no visible signs of trauma.
Geordyn stated that the five-year-old girl went missing after she was last seen at Pawleys Island where the family was vacationing on August 30, 2026. After which search for Saylor started intensively with the help of Midway Fire Deartment and drones from the Georgetown Country Sherif's Officer.
Saylor's parents arrested in connection of their five-year-old daughter's death
John and Geordyn have been arrested for their daughter's death. They have been charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk and abandoning her, which followed her disappearance and lead to her passing. It has also been reported that Saylor had been equipped with a monitoring device since 2024 but it was removed by the parents before leaving Virgina.
Sheriff spokesperson, Heather Pelham revealed that the equipment was not with Saylor at the time of her death but if she had worn it, she would have located much sooner. Sheriff said:
"What makes this situation especially heartbreaking is that Saylor did not have her transmitter with her when she went missing. Had Saylor been wearing her Project Lifesaver transmitter, we believe the technology could have assisted search teams in locating her much sooner. While no technology can guarantee an outcome, every minute matters when a vulnerable child or adult is missing. We cannot emphasize enough how important it is for enrolled clients to wear their transmitters consistently."
Sheriff Carter Weaver released a statement after Saylor's parents arrest in the matter. He talked about hte heartbreaking tragedy that deeply affected their lives and everyone who worked hard to the five-year-old girl. They did everything to find her, but the parents have been arrested and charged under South Carolina law relating to unlawfully placing a child at a risk or willfully abandoning a child.
The statement further stated that parents and caregivers have a fundamental responisbility to protect the children who cannot look after themselves. The police stated that Saylor was a vulnerable five-year-old child who depended upon her parents for her care and protection and she deserved to be safe. The statement can be read as:
"Nothing we do can bring Saylor back. What we can do is pursue the truth, seek accountability through our justice system, and continue doing everything within our authority to protect the most vulnerable members of our community. I remain extremely grateful to the deputies, investigators, first responders, partner agencies and citizens who worked tirelessly to find Saylor and determine what happened to her."
We pray for the truth to come out in Saylor Hues' death.
