Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar are undoubtedly one of the evergreen couples of Bollywood. The duo had been the perfect epitome of a match-made-in-heaven and they kept up their promise of forever till the latter’s last day. For the unversed, Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu crossed paths when the latter was just a 12-year-old fan of the unparalleled actor. She had developed an instant love and devotion for him. Years later, their love actually got manifested and the duo tied the knot in 1966. Reportedly, the duo had a massive age gap of 22 years at the time of their marriage.
Veteran actress, Saira Banu recently made her social media debut on July 7, 2023, which also marks the death anniversary of her dearest husband and iconic star, Dilip Kumar. And in her latest post, Saira Banu revealed some fond details about her relationship with her ‘Sahib’. Dropping a hearty picture of Dilip Kumar, Saira revealed how the former always liked to wear white-hued Jodhpuri kind of bush shirts with a collar. She added how whenever she used to plead him to wear something more colourful than just plain white, he would counter-request her to wear fluffy Organdy sarees and not salwar kameez. In her words:
“Sahib preferably always wore white in this Jodhpuri collar kind of "Bush" shirts... I requested and got around him to please wear a few colour shades In his shirts... here he is laughing at me saying look! I am wearing a colour... a yellow that you like Saira... but on condition that you promise to wear fluffy Organdy sarees that make you seem more substantial! Not salwar kameez that makes me want to send you to school again!”

On July 7, 2023, Saira Banu had made her first-ever social media debut and penned a heartfelt note about the same. Dropping some nostalgic pictures with Dilip Kumar, Saira highlighted how the date shall always continue to remind her of the most tragic and painful loss when her loved one never woke up from his eternal slumber. Moreover, she revealed that her social media presence would only be to keep the legacy of Dilip sahab alive and share his wonderful thoughts and visions for his fans. An excerpt of her long note could be read as:
“On Instagram I would like to share his life, his thoughts and vision, as also his dedication and commitments not only to the Film Industry of which he has been the Ultimate Actor, but various other activities towards society and well-being of the world at large.”
Ever since Dilip Kumar’s demise in 2021, there has not been a single day when Saira Banu has not missed his presence in her life. This pain became all the more profound when she had to celebrate her memorable wedding anniversaries without him. For instance, on October 11, 2022, Saira Banu in an interview with ETimes expressed her heart-wrenching feelings of ringing in her wedding anniversary without Dilip sahab. She highlighted how she had stopped going out and meeting new people and added how only her co-actor, Amitabh Bachchan remembered the date and sent across flowers and hand notes.

In the same interview, Saira Banu opened up about the personality of Dilip Kumar and revealed how he never wanted to run behind name and fame. He never wished to grab all the spotlight. Instead, he presented himself just as he was in real life in front of everyone.
