ESPN is reportedly parting ways with Ryan Clark after more than a decade of their collaboration. Ryan Clark joined ESPN back in 2015 and re-signed with the network in 2021 for three years. Following this, in 2024, he and ESPN had an argumentative contract deal going on, as the former NFL star said on social media that he felt that he deserved more. ESPN, however, denied the same. Now, in July 2026, reports claimed that ESPN would part ways with Ryan Clark.

The layoff is expected to happen this week only, as reported, and it is the first of many layoffs that will reportedly take place eventually. According to Andrew Marchand from The Athletic, Ryan was appearing on NFL Live on Monday, i.e., July 20, 2026, when he was informed that his time with ESPN had come to an end. The news of his layoff was expected to reach him on Tuesday, i.e., on July 21, 2026, when other employees will also be informed about the same. However, Ryan got the news sooner, and he didn't finish the program.

Amid reports about his layoff, people have been questioning the salary that Ryan was getting from ESPN. While not confirmed, it was revealed that he was earning USD 2 million annually from ESPN and was one of the highest-paid on-air personalities of the network.

ESPN allegedly laid off Ryan during a crucial time, as the network was all set to broadcast the Super Bowl and Ryan Clark was expected to be one of the well-known on-air personalities for the same. Reports also claimed that ESPN is extending its contract with other TV personalities and is even considering boosting Pat McAfee's salary to USD 60 million per year.

Amid this, Ryan Clark's firing came as a shock. Ryan Clark hasn't released any statement regarding this, and ESPN is also yet to make any official announcement. To speak about Ryan's net worth, it is reportedly estimated between USD 6 and 12 million. Before being a well-known NFL analyst, Ryan Clark was an NFL star whose career spanned 13 years.

Throughout his time, Ryan played with the New York Giants, Washington, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. If the reports are to be believed, his base salary from his decade-long NFL career was approximately USD 15.27 million. Apart from being a former NFL star and an NFL analyst, Ryan Clark is also famous for his podcast, The Pivot, and another project, Inside The NFL, which further continued to boost his income.

The reason for ESPN firing Ryan Clark

There's no official reason given for ESPN firing Ryan Clark, and he also didn't reveal anything about the same. However, no sooner did the report about Ryan's firing surface than an incident from last year started grabbing the attention again. While it cannot be confirmed whether ESPN's decision to fire Ryan Clark came from last year's incident, people on social media had said that it could be a contributing factor. 

Last year, Ryan got into a heated argument with ESPN reporter Peter Schrager. It began with Ryan telling Peter that the latter had never played in the NFL. When Peter pushed back, Ryan said that all he wanted for the former was not to get mad and let him finish. Reportedly, the argument continued even after the cameras stopped rolling. Ryan also reportedly apologized for his behavior with Peter afterward during another podcast. Notably, this was not an official cause of his firing, but rather an incident that grabbed attention amid the buzz about ESPN laying off Ryan.
