When ‘Bholi Punjaban’, Richa Chadha had met ‘Ali bhai’, Ali Fazal on the sets Fukrey, she had never thought that he would sweep her off her feet. Known for calling a spade a spade, Richa is known for speaking her mind always. She had once stated that she could never fall for someone from Bollywood, but little did she know that one day, she would be madly in love with Ali. And when the news of Richa and Ali being in a relationship had started doing the rounds, their fans couldn’t be happier. The gorgeous couple, who was all set to tie the knot this year, had to postpone their plans owing to the global pandemic.
On September 2, 2020, Richa Chadha took to her IG handle and shared a throwback picture from the 2017 Venice Film Festival. As she missed her travelling days due to the global pandemic, Richa reminisced the time when her beau, Ali Fazal had made her proud with his performance in Victoria and Abdul. Along with picture, Richa wrote, “A socially distant Venice film festival began today... this picture from 2017 is when main man @alifazal9 made my heart swell with pride at the world premiere of Victoria and Abdul. Seems like it was eons ago... I hope we can travel freely again soon.”
Richa and Ali had become friends on the sets of Fukrey and there were also rumours that they had started dating each other after some time. The rumours had become more evident when Richa had parted ways with her ex-boyfriend, Franck Gastambide, whom she had met at the Cannes Film Festival 2015. The same was confirmed during the Venice Film Festival in 2017 where Ali’s film, Victoria and Abdul was screened and Richa had flown all the way to be by his side. On October 15, 2019, Richa Chadha had taken to her Instagram handle and had posted a video, which was full of beautiful moments with her beau, Ali Fazal. Along with the video, she had penned a heartfelt wish which could be read as "It’s nothing short of a miracle, that in this ridiculous, stupid world, I found you... you! A best friend, fan, peer, lover, critic, partner-in-crime rolled into one! I respect you as a man, a human and an artist. You are joy. You are perfection! Cheers to a love spread across the years, across continents...happy birthday dear Ali! There can be no other. God bless you!"
In an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, Ali Fazal had opened up on the reason for postponing the wedding. He had said, "It has been delayed until further notice. I think we will celebrate with the world when everything is open again. We have something to celebrate... some good news hopefully, that everyone will get and we’ll make sure to bring that along with our wedding.
