'Resident Evil', Zach Cregger To Unleash A New Nightmare With His Upcoming Film, Know What Happens

Zach Cregger, Resident Evil is all set to release on September 18, 2026. The film is all about Zach's take on the family horror franchise. For the unversed, Zach Cregger is famous for his films such as Barbarian and Weapons. However, this time, the director is trying his hands on an extremely dark horror.

All about Zach Cregger's Resident Evil

Zach Cregger has directed an iconic horror franchise which stars Austin Abrams as 'Bryan'. The trailer shows the audience the outbreak, where a medical courier gets trapped in the midst of a zombie crisis. It happened on one fateful night and shows the tension, fear and desperation to survive the zombie outbreak.

It is worth mentioning that this time the version is 100 percent original, and it doesn't involve the familiar characters from the video games. The trailer tries to show the claustrophobic environments and infected creatures. It has a lot of suspense with a fresh take. It also shows disturbing picturisation and a signature tone that is inspired by the early Resident Evil games. The film has an ensemble cast which includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser. The film is all set to release on September 18, 2026, and is highly anticipated among the fans as they are eager to witness the reboot, and they are hoping that the film does justice to the horror series.

Talking about the Resident Evil reboot, Zach Cregger wanted to rework the franchise while making sure that he doesn't divert from the horror roots. Cregger himself has been a fan of the video game series. He has made it clear that he doesn't want to recreate the games' storylines but to show the raw emotions and feelings. In another interaction, Zach accepted that fans might be divided by his approach.

He added that he is intentionally telling an original story within the Resident Evil universe. Cregger is ready to face backlash, and he knows that fans won't spare him if the film goes too far. But he still wanted to take the risk and create a cinematic experience for the fans. He was quoted as saying:

"I wanted to construct a story that could live in the world of Resident Evil and kind of be on the periphery of the events of Resident Evil 2, where Raccoon City is having its big night, but tell just another story that could be happening in parallel, that really honors the vibe and the pacing you get when you play the games."

Cregger further stated how he made the movie on the basis of whether he would ever be dropped in the game and how he would react. He stated that he doesn't know how to use guns and he misses 99.9 percent shots and would run everywhere in terror and cussing his face if he encountered. He was quoted as saying:

"I am not a badass at all. I don't know how to use guns very well. I miss 99% of the shots I take, and I would be running in terror and cussing my face off at every encounter. I think it's going to be really fun to be following somebody through this gauntlet that is not like SEAL Team Six-level prepared. I'm just going to tell another story that feels like playing a game in the world of the game, but I'm not stepping on the toes of any of Leon's storyline. I'm not recasting Leon, God forbid. I'm letting Leon stay Leon and I feel like that's the most respectful thing I could do."
