Late iconic actress, Reema Lagoo's name is immortalised in the hearts of every Indian, after her performance in the sitcoms, Shriman Shrimati as 'Kokila Kulkarni' and as 'Devaki Verma' in Tu Tu Main Main. It was in the 1990s and early 2000s when Reema had ruled the Indian cinema by playing motherly roles in some of the biggest hits of that era.

The actress was everyone's favourite, and unlike her illustrious acting career, her personal life wasn't that successful and glittering. Reema Lagoo was married to Vivek Lagoo, and their love story is nothing less than a Bollywood movie. After her demise in 2017, her ex-husband, Vivek had revealed everything about their love story, divorce, and last fight before sudden demise.

The Marathi queen of maternal roles, Reema Lagoo

On June 21, 1958, Reema Lagoo was born as Nayan Bhadbhade to her parents, Nayan Bhadbhade and Mandakini Bhadbhade. Not many are aware that Reema's mother, Mandakini was a yesteryear actress, who is a big name in Marathi theatre and films. She is famous for her iconic play, Lekure Udand Jhali. Writings were on the walls as her daughter, Reema showed all signs of a professional actress right from her early childhood days.

Reema Lagoo was heavily influenced by her mother, Mandakini Bhadbhade, and had always wanted to follow in her footsteps. As a child artist, Reema had featured in five major films. Her most famous film, as a child artist was Durga Khote's Ti Phularani. Her senior career in Marathi theatre had taken a big step after she had acted in P.L Deshpande's play. Since then, there was looking back for the actress. She had quickly made a solid impact in Marathi theatre and had made her debut in films with the 1979 movie, Sinhasan.

In a 2017 interview with SpotboyE, late actress, Reema Lagoo's ex-husband, Vivek Lagoo had talked about their first meeting. Recalling the same, Vivek had said that he was 23-years-old when he had met Reema for the first time at a bank.

Reema Lagoo and Vivek Lagoo's love story is one of the sweetest and most relatable real-life love stories in the entertainment industry. Talking about the same in his interview, Vivek had revealed that it was in November 1976, when he and Reema had fallen in love with each other while working in the same bank. Vivek had also added that it was their common interest in cinema that had brought them together. The two had dated for some time, and it was in 1978 when Reema and Vivek got married.

After their marriage in 1978, Reema Lagoo and Vivek Lagoo had welcomed their first child in 1988. The couple were blessed with a baby girl on May 29, 1988, and they have lovingly named her, Mrunmayee.

After some years of their marriage, Reema and Vivek were separated, and their daughter's custody was given to the late actress by the court. Late actress, Reema Lagoo and Vivek Lagoo's daughter, Mrunmayee is an actress and was last seen in the film, Mann Fakira.

In his interview, Vivek Lagoo had also talked about his divorce from his late wife, Reema Lagoo. He had stated that they were restructuring their respective lives, and their parting was amicable. He had stated,

"It was an understanding to restructure our lives. The parting was amicable."

After Vivek and Reema's divorce, the custody of their daughter, Mrunmayee was handed over to the late actress.

Going further in his interview, when Vivek Lagoo was asked about his theatre play with his ex-wife, Reema Lagoo, he had also talked about people's reactions to their reunion back then. Vivek had said that it was in 2014 when he had done a play with Reema, titled, Doosra Silsila and people were quite shocked to see them together. Vivek had said that he and Reema had always believed in putting their work and hobbies above their personal differences.

Vivek Lagoo had also surprisingly revealed that his late wife, Reema Lagoo had wanted him to write the script of a one-woman show, and he had worked on the project. But because of some circumstances, the show couldn't reach post-production.

Vivek Lagoo had also talked about the reason behind Reema Lagoo's sudden death. Vivek had stated that his ex-wife had no history of heart ailment, which is the reason why they were shocked to know about Reema's death after having a cardiac arrest. He had said,

"Reema had no history of any heart ailment or even discomfort. It was a bad shock."

Going further in his interview, Vivek Lagoo had also recalled what had happened on May 18, 2017. The ex-husband had revealed that Reema Lagoo had started feeling some discomfort, and her son and daughter-in-law had immediately taken her to the Kokilaben Ambani hospital in Andheri at 1 a.m. After admitting Reema into the hospital, several tests were taken by the doctors. However, an ECG had revealed that recently she had suffered a mild heart attack.

Vivek Lagoo had also added that after the ECG report, the doctors had done some more tests, and at the same time, his ex-wife, Reema Lagoo's health had started deteriorating. After which, she was admitted into the ICU. On the other side, Reema's daughter, Mrunmayee Lagoo and Vivek had informed their family doctor to explain what is happening with Reema. However, at midnight, Reema had suddenly started snoring, and her health had started worsening with every passing minute.

Vivek Lagoo on Reema Lagoo's death

The emotional ex-husband, Vivek Lagoo had confirmed that sadly at 3:15 a.m., his ex-wife and one of the most loved actresses of all time, Reema Lagoo had passed away at the age of 59. Vivek had also added that the doctors had tried their best, but it was way too late by then. Vivek had also revealed that he was at his home when Reema's daughter, Mrunmayee and son-in-law, Vinay had come to his place and had informed him about her death.

Recalling the tragic moment of realisation, Vivek Lagoo had said,

"They came home. I opened the door, and they said: We have lost her. It was unbelievable. Yeh kaise hua? Lekin hua hai. And we'll have to go through this. We have to restructure our lives again."

Vivek was also asked whether he had ever thought of remarrying someone else after his divorce from Reema Lagoo and his answer had melted everyone's hearts. Vivek had stated,

"There's a similarity between Gulzar, Basu Bhattacharya and myself: No more, just once. And after our marriage is over, we stay alone."
