It is not easy being a bride, and no matter what the world says, we understand the craze, the rush, and the hope of making every detail of your wedding a dreamy affair. And thanks to Bollywood and Disney fairytales, we have all dreamt of becoming a bride (million times) since the age of six. From wedding trousseau to eyeing our mother's saree closet, we have eagerly waited for our big day to dawn. But before we walk under the phoolon ki chaadar and hold the hand of our man, we want everything to be perfect.
So, dear 2019 brides, we are sure by now, you must have memorised the whole wedding checklist, lehenga, jewellery, bag, makeup, hairdo, but what about the shoes? Don't tell us, you are going to wear the usual glittery heels. Gone are the days when bridal heels were just limited to embellishments, glitter and the height of the heel. Nowadays, if it is not love, at first sight, it's not worth buying. So scroll down as we bring you the quirky shoes that show the different aspect of your #BeingDulhan journey! P.s: Hold your heart tight because you will definitely get a crush on these quirky bridal shoes!
From Punjabi patialas to lehenga, juttis never go out of fashion. Trends may come, trends may go, but it remains forever, delicately passed on to generations with the stories of the finest material. And what if, you get the chance to quirk it up for your shaadi day? Well, it will be a perfect souvenir of your biggest day. Our heart skipped a beat when we first saw the real bride, Gurleen Kaur wore a yellow jutti that reads 'Swagger Banno' from the brand Talking Toes. It looked on point with her maroon dhoti set.
We even spotted the real bride, Khawish proudly donning her wedding hashtag on her rani pink jutti that reads, 'Shivam Ki Khawish' with her contrasting peplum kurti.
Another bombshell design we fell in instantly love is this red jutti that states 'Pataka Bride'.
And, what a unique pair of juttis, in ice blue colour with a bow and tie, gorgeous, isn't it?
Why do brides these days ditch painful heels and opt for flats when it comes to their wedding shoes? Well, modern brides chose comfort and style over heels and height. Not Just Threads, founder, Pallavi Aggarwal shared the modern bride's preference when it comes to customisation for their D-day shoes. She said:
"Okay first of all, it is the comfort that matters a lot, then next is the style. They want exclusivity as they want to get their shoes customised. And it should be something that is reuseable, as in they should be able to wear them with other outfits. Lastly, the price range should fit in their budget."
And while there are many designs to choose in your pair of wedding juttis, we love the ones that depict our personality like this one pair from the brand, Bows n Buckles, that states, 'Nakhrewali Dulhan'. Also, the one that states, 'Pataka Dulhan' from the label, I heart sole house.
When sandal fails to impress, sneakers come in handy! Well, this stands true, even for the brides as sandals can leave a shoe bite on the most important day of your life, but sneakers will always sneak in without leaving any mark. That's when we spotted some of the prettiest gems from the brand, Poshampa by Garima. We loved their real bride, Priya Chandani, who ditched the heels and opted for 'Bano Tera Swagger' sneakers on her wedding day with a maroon lehenga.
When we got in touch with Garima from Poshampa, who design hand-painted shoes for brides and their tribe. She shared the details brides are looking for on their wedding day shoes. She said:
"So every bride comes to me with their special requests like some of them want the base color to be matching with their lehenga, some want heels, some want same motifs from their lehenga, some of them ask me to write their hashtags, names or date of the wedding on the shoes. Some of them want me to design a pair for the groom too so they both can wear them on their special day."
Garima also revealed how once a Nepalese bride had got in touch with her to design shoes for her wedding day with a special design:
"Also, there are some special requests like Nepalese bride, South Indian bride and Catholic bride, Nepalese bride sent me the pictures of her traditional Nepalese jewelry and what groom is going to wear and wanted to incorporate them exactly as this is a huge part of their marriage tradition. I start by making the sketch and show it to them is they would like to add or delete anything, after that, I start the color and put embellishments, glitter on it to compete."
If comfort is your first friend, then you must add a pair of bridal slippers in your wedding trousseau. As they are the ideal pick for your mehendi night, also they will help you to stand on your toes for the perfect pictures all through the night. We spotted a bride, Urmi, who opted for a pair of slippers from the brand, Zubiya on her mehendi day and she not only got her wedding hashtag hand-painted on it but also her wedding date. Isn’t it a perfect souvenir for your entire life?
When we got in touch with the brand, SULIT by Hiral and Urja, they shared with us the details a bride is looking for when they come for customisation. They said:
“Today when a bride comes to customise her bridal pair ,the first concern is the comfort ,because on her D-day she would be standing all the while. So we make sure that the bridal pair is made soft by giving in enough cushioning and taking care of details so there is nothing that would hurt her feet. Many brides for her pre-wedding functions want to wear a pair designed with some catchy tags embellished like “sexy-dulhaniya” “pataka-kudi” etc .Now, when it’s about the Wedding pair,we take care about making it look the best..The handwork and shades are picked in a way that they match their outfit and completes their look perfectly because we believe that a bride on her Wedding day has to look completely perfect from top to Bottom! Talking about comfort, well, we spotted another bride, Swarna Tibrewal, who opted for a pastel blue ‘Pataka Dulhan’ slippers and gave away the contrasting slippers to her bride squad as a wedding favour.
Another piece of art is Kolhpuris that never ditch us, no matter how rough the weather gets. And we spotted the bride, Janifar Bajwa, who donned a beautiful pair of fuschia pink bow Kolhapuris sandal from the brand, Talking Toe on her mehendi day. It accentuated her pastel blue lehenga with floral embellishments, leaving our jaws dropped in awe.
We fell in love with another Kolhapuri on one of the brides that states, 'Patola Bride'.
Also, how gorgeous is the floral Kohlapuris, a perfect pick for your mehendi or sangeet ceremony!
If you are one of those tomboys or love your sports shoes collection more than anything else, then proudly flaunt your shoe collection by adding a quirky pair of wedding shoes that matches your lehenga perfectly. When we had first seen bride, Namrata Singh walking the phoolon ki chadar in a mesmerising pastel pink lehenga, we fell instantly in love with her. But the moment she gave us a sneak-peak of her bridal shoes, we were flattered. She had worn a pair of customised pink shoes from the label, Banjaaran with the same embroidery as on her bridal lehenga.
We fell in love with another pair of shoes that has a beautiful thread work on it that states, 'Amit Ki Dulhania' from the label, Shradha Hedau Footwear.

So, worry not, as we spotted a gorgeous pair of wedges that has the most beautiful detailing on it. We spotted this design from the label, Shradha Hedau Footwear, and it has the cutest doli motif on it.
Another bombshell wedges are this bride's 'Pataka Dulhan' and her sister exactly matching 'Pataka Sister' pair, or the one that states, 'Dulhaniya Swag'
The best part about a pair of shoes is that you can treasure them for life. And what if we tell you to get your proposal story customised on your wedding day shoes, well, it will be a keepsake for all your coming generation. We spotted this beautiful bombshell pair of juttis from the label, Fizzy Goblet, and instantly our heart skipped a beat.
For the crazy brides, who love experimenting, you must get your hands on the latest collection of Needle Dust that perfect shows of a riot of colours on their juttis. It will not only enhance your oomph factor but will also serve as an amazing prop in all your mehendi pictures.
Well, we totally love the brides, who dare to listen to their heart and not the society. And we really think, there isn't a better way to shut the societal notions then following your heart.
