The Netflix documentary, Maternal Instinct, focused on the case of Reagan Simmons-Hancock’s murder in 2020, committed by her friend and her wedding photographer, Taylor Parker. Reagan’s family members, including her mother, Jessica Brookes, and sister, Emily Shirey, had possibly never expected Taylor to get involved in such a brutal act, considering that Parker got so close to them, appearing as an individual who was available for all those who needed any help.
Meanwhile, Jessica and Emily recalled the memories of Reagan as they appeared for a new interview and the changes they expect to happen after the case. Keep reading to know more!

Reagan Simmons-Hancock was expecting a child when Taylor Parker murdered her to obtain her unborn child, Braxlynn. The act resulted from problems between Taylor and her ex-boyfriend, Wade Griffin. Parker attempted to save the relationship at any cost, where she lied about her pregnancy. She later opted to murder Reagan when her pregnancy started to create doubts in everyone’s minds, and the baby’s due date passed.

In a recent interview, Reagan’s mother, Jessica, recalled that her daughter was very close to her child, Kynlee. She stated that they could not be separated from each other since the beginning. While speaking on the documentary, Jessica said that she was a completely changed person after her daughter’s death, and she is now well aware of the fact that her daughter is not coming back.

Jessica and her other daughter, Emily Shirey, are now expecting that the murder case will bring some changes, including the protection of those ladies who are expecting a child. Emily addressed the same and said:

Taylor Parker’s ex-boyfriend, Wade Griffin, and his mother, Connie, were also featured in the documentary. Wade was also spotted getting emotional when he recalled the period when he came to the hospital and was informed by the authorities about everything that Taylor did to Reagan Simmons-Hancock. Taylor had a hysterectomy years before she announced her pregnancy, and her OB/GYN, Dr. Christopher Mason, addressed the same, saying that she couldn’t have any children.

Since Mason knew the truth, a Code Pink was implemented at the Northeast Texas Women’s Clinic because there was a fear that Taylor might try to steal a baby. Meanwhile, Jessica Dimmock, the director of the documentary, said in an interview that the laws existed for a reason and that they also did not allow many people to do anything to prevent such a brutal crime. Jessica is now expecting that this will change a lot of things in the future, including the protection of pregnant women, as she said:
“Pregnant women in this country are vulnerable. Having the law not just be thinking about the unborn or recently born, but also the mother that is carrying that child and what danger she could be in also feels like a huge gap in the law here and a tragically missed moment. It wasn’t just Braxlynn who was in danger here, it was Reagan as well.”
