The 40-year-old former child star revealed her regret over her decision to get her breasts reduced at the mere age of 15. The stunning actress, who was criticized for her body size since she was a child, wished she could say no instead of succumbing to the pressure.
Raven Symone got two breast reduction surgeries before 18
Raven Symone is one of the most versatile stars, who has received several accolades, including five NAACP Image Awards, two Kids' Choice Awards, three Young Artist Awards, and five Emmy Award nominations. The American actress rose to fame as ‘Olivia Kendall’ on The Cosby Show. Her fame was doubled when she landed the title role of ‘Raven Baxter’ on the Disney Channel television series That's So Raven.
In 2012, she was included on VH1's list of "100 Greatest Child Stars of All Time". Despite her success, Raven faced body image issues. She was criticized for her weight, due to which she underwent two breast reductions and liposuction before she turned 18 years old. On The Best Podcast Ever With Raven and Miranda, the actress spoke about the same and said:
“My dad suggested strongly that I should get my breasts reduced. He was like, 'So you don't feel bad, is there anything that you want?' I was like, 'Yeah, if I get lipo, will people stop calling me fat?' So I got a twofer."
Raven has never spoken about the agony she underwent throughout her surgeries and the trauma it gave her. Her huge breast size was a mess, and the actress suffered back pain. Though she suffered a lot of emotional turmoil, the surgeries didn’t solve the problem and added to the mess she was already suffering.
Raven Symone went on to have another surgery after she gained more weight
In the same podcast, Raven revealed that her surgeons had to reconstruct her breasts and shrink specific areas because "certain things were overly stretched." The recovery process was painful, and the actress revealed she is still carrying the scar of the surgery. After the surgery, Raven suffered a seizure. Recalling the same, she shared:
“I remember waking up and seeing everything, and then I started to have this dry mouth and couldn't breathe, and then I went back under, and they were like, 'Oh yeah, you had a seizure.”
Raven was just 15 when she had her first surgery, but even after the immense pain, she was not at ease. After her first breast reduction, the actress gained weight and had to go back for a second procedure. Despite the surgery, there were no noticeable changes in her appearance because she wasn’t as skinny as her peers. As a result, she was continued being criticized on social media and people still called her fat.
Raven went on to have Liposuction to reduce her belly fat, but the process failed as the actress had a hormone imbalance. So, she kept gaining weight despite everything. Through it all, Raven learned to embrace her body in every form. In a recent interaction on the Allure Perspectives podcast, Raven opened up about the regret over her decision to get a breast reduction at age 15. Speaking about the same, she said:
“I should have done it after puberty. I mean, it was hastily done. I wish I were stronger to say no.”
