Ranbir Kapoor has treated his fans with a glimpse of his never-seen-before avatar with the trailer of his upcoming film, Animal. Slated to release on December 1, 2023, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna and Anil Kapoor in pivotal roles. While Ranbir has startled everyone with his portrayal of a revenge-seeking, maddening character, his fans, on the other hand, cannot stop comparing his looks in the film with another classic character in cinema.
While the trailer of the film, Animal is receiving a humongous response nationwide, it seems that netizens are more intrigued by Ranbir’s looks than his performance. Well, netizens cannot stop comparing how much his looks in a white kurta and a tilak on his forehead resonate with a similar look that was donned by Sanjay Dutt in the film, Vaastav. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), netizens expressed their views on the same. While someone wrote, “After watching Animal trailer.. I was like.. Whether I was seeing Sanjay Dutt another Biopic”, another user commented, “Ranbir Kapoor looks more like Sanjay Dutt and from the trailer it surely blockbuster performance from him.”

Earlier today, during the trailer launch of his film, Animal, Ranbir Kapoor spoke about doing such an aggressive character in his film, Animal and revealed asking the director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga for some reference for the character. Ranbir then mentioned that while he never really understood the nature of the character, he ended up subconsciously imitating his father, late Rishi Kapoor’s aggressive nature. He mentioned:
“Main hamesha jab Sandeep se milta tha toh main hamesha ek yahi question puchta tha ki Sandeep mujhe ek reference de de. Mujhe yeh sab kbhi mehsoos nahi hui thi. Mujhe eventually subconsciously kahi na kahi, mujhe mere papa ki yaad aagyi. I think jis tarike se woh bat krte the, he was a very passionate, aggressive man.”
For the unversed, this isn’t the first time that Ranbir Kapoor has been associated in some way or the another with Sanjay Dutt. It was back in 2018 when the former helmed Sanjay’s biopic, Sanju. Back at that time, during an interview, Ranbir mentioned that he was obsessed with Sanjay Dutt since childhood, and added how the latter remarked hilariously seeing his frail body and tried to inspire him to work on his fitness.

In yet one of his other interviews, Ranbir Kapoor talked about how closely he was entangled with the film, Sanju and revealed that even after the film’s shoot was over, he was in some way or the other still carrying on with the ‘Sanjay Dutt’ hangover. In his words:
“I never took a character at home. Though after I finish Sanju... it took me time to get over the Sanjay Dutt hangover. This is because my eyes became like him, I started smiling like him, and I started walking like him. So that took a little time, but other than that, no other film."
