Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai worked as co-stars for the first time in the 2016 romantic film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Directed by Karan Johar, the film also featured actress, Anushka Sharma in the lead. In an old interview with Miss Malini, Ranbir Kapoor talked about romancing Aishwarya Rai on-screen. The actor also revealed that he used to shiver while doing the intimate scenes and said:
“Sharam aati thi, mere haath shiver hote the. Kabhi kabhi main unke gaal ko touch karne main jhijhakta tha. Phir unhone hi bola, ‘Listen, what’s wrong with you? We are acting, do it properly.’ Phir maine socha, kabhi aisa mauka milega nahi, so maine bhi mauke pe chauka maar diya!”
Aishwarya Rai received a lot of flak for romancing Ranbir Kapoor in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, as the film portrayed an old woman’s relationship with a young man. However, the actress once reacted to the uproars and stated that her on-screen chemistry with Ranbir was not frivolous but a classy relationship.

Sometime back, an unseen picture of Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan from the sets of their film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was shared on Reddit. The candid picture grabbed everyone's attention and reminded us of the duo's scintillating on-screen chemistry. Ranbir and Aishwarya were seen sitting on a couch and clicking a selfie together.
Once, in an interview, Ranbir Kapoor spoke about the experience of working with former Miss World and shared that it was a historic moment in his career. He added that he was thinking that Aishwarya would say 'No' to the opportunity to romance him in the film. Ranbir further mentioned that when Aishwarya got married to Abhishek, he spent a lot of time with her during those days and added:
“The experience has been great. Which actor wouldn’t want to romance her? It was a historic moment in my career when Karan told me that he would be casting her. I thought she would say no and wouldn’t act with me. I have been friends with her since that time. When Aishwarya got married to Abhishek, I spent a lot of time with her during those days as well.”
