The siblings were later to be picked by their father, Madan Mohan Chopra, a captain of the Indian Navy from the All India Radio office around 9 pm. However, Geeta and Sanjay never reached the station. On their way to the All India Radio office, the siblings were kidnapped by Kuljeet Singh, alias Ranga Khus and Jasbir Singh, alias Billa. The initial motive behind the kidnapping was ransom, but Ranga and Billa dropped the plan after knowing that Geeta and Sanjay’s father was a Navy officer.
