Priyanka Chopra To Play Dangerous Villain, 'Rita Repulsa' Of 'Power Rangers' In Disney Series

Priyanka Chopra, our very own desi girl, has already established herself as a global icon. She made history when she got featured in the hit TV series, Quantico. For the unversed, she played the role of 'Alex Parrish'. With her impeccable acting skills, Priyanka has proved to be a versatile actress in both Bollywood and Hollywood. Currently, rumours are rife that our desi girl will be seen in Disney’s Power Rangers series.

Priyanka Chopra will reportedly play a vicious character, 'Rita Repulsa'

According to the latest reports, Disney Plus is planning a new version of the hit franchise, Power Rangers and the creative team of the global streaming platform has shortlisted Priyanka to play the vicious character, 'Rita Repulsa'. For the unversed, 'Rita' is a primary antagonist of the franchise and plays an important role in the series. After knowing that Priyanka, who is known for her bold and unique character choices, will be allegedly part of Disney’s Power Rangers series, fans are left in a frenzy. A Disney insider was quoted as saying: 

"Rita Repulsa is the villain, and the studio has Chopra on their wishlist."

Priyanka Chopra played a negative role in the Hollywood film, Baywatch

If the reports about Priyanka playing 'Rita Repulsa' are believed to be true, then this is not the first time she has been seen playing a negative character in Hollywood projects. Earlier, in a 2017 American action comedy film, Baywatch, she portrayed a negative role and received wide acclaim. She played the role of villain, 'Victoria Leeds', a criminal mastermind, a dr** smuggler and an owner of a nightclub.

In a past interview with Glamour, Priyanka shared that it was fun playing a vicious character like 'Victoria' on screen. She mentioned the character is self-centred and always expects to receive special treatment. Priyanka highlighted that she had taken inspiration from James Bond franchise villains to portray 'Victoria Leeds'. She was quoted as saying:

"Victoria is such an absurdly fabulous character – she wears Couture to the beach, she doesn’t like walking on the sand, so there’s a little stool that comes out for her, someone asks her for a raise, she feeds them to the sharks, I mean, she’s crazy! My inspiration for Victoria was a Bond villain; over the top, narcissistic, and everything is about YOU. It’s so much fun to play that because I don’t consider myself like that."

When Priyanka Chopra found playing a wicked character, 'intimidating'

In a past conversation with Anupam Kher on his show, The Anupam Kher Show, global icon, Priyanka shared an unheard story behind playing a negative character in the film, Aitraaz. The 2004 film featured Priyanka Chopra as a wicked character named 'Sonia Roy'. Speaking candidly, Priyanka confessed that playing such a character on-screen was quite 'intimidating' for her as she was just 21 years old. She mentioned that initially she was unsure about playing such a character, but with time she realised it was just acting. She added that her movies became her film school, from where she learned things that helped her a lot to contribute to a particular role. She was quoted as saying:

"In Aitraaz, I played the villain - the bad guy in the story. Initially, I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it. I was just 21 at that time, and playing the negative character [Sonia Kapoor Roy] was quite intimidating for me. On top of that, Sonia was a sexually forward woman, and I had come from a relatively conservative family, so I was quite unsure if I should play that role. That said, it also made me realise that I could contribute towards that role. My movies have been my film school."
