Priyanka Chopra, our very own 'Desi-Girl', is widely known for her acting prowess. Currently, she is on a promotional spree for the upcoming film, The Bluff. For the unversed, the action thriller is set to release on Amazon Prime on February 25, 2026. Being a global icon, PeeCee has been ruling the red carpet events, but she also has her own set of scary experiences as a woman. In a recent interview, she recalled a horrifying past incident as a teenager and how her mother, Madhu, saved her.
In a recent interview with ANI, Priyanka recalled a scary cab ride when she was returning to a hotel in Delhi with her mom, Madhu Chopra. The shocking incident took place years ago when PeeCee was around 11 years old. What seemed like a routine cab ride soon turned dramatic when the driver took an unfamiliar route that Madhu was not aware of. When the cab driver was asked why he took the turn, he reportedly said that he was taking a shortcut. However, Priyanka’s mom was convinced about the whole thing. Recalling how her mom reacted at the time, Priyanka said:
"We were in a cab, and I must have been 11 years old or something. Raat mein hum Delhi ke kisi hotel mein jaa rahe the. All I saw was my mother holding the throat of the driver. She said, 'Drive back to the main road. I’m here with my teenage daughter.'"

Earlier, in a conversation with Rodrigo Canelas on the Something Bigger Talk Show, Madhu became emotional and shared that she regretted sending her daughter, PeeCee, to boarding school at the age of 7. She mentioned that it was hard for her. Despite all the pain, she had to manage the thing maturely. She used to visit PeeCee at weekends. However, a teacher in the boarding school told her to stop visiting. Recalling the moment, Madhu said:
"I don't know, was I a mean mother? I still regret it. I still cry over it. It was very hard for me, too. But the thing was, every Saturday, I would leave my work and take a train and come to visit her every Saturday. That was becoming disruptive for her because she was not able to adjust to her boarding school. Saturday, she would wait for me to arrive, and then on Sunday, I would stay with her. And all week, the teacher told me, 'Stop coming. You can't come.'"

In a 2025 podcast with TV actress, Debina Bonnerjee, Madhu recalled a tough time when the Chopra family faced a personal loss. For the uninitiated, Priyanka Chopra’s dad, Dr. Ashok Chopra, passed away on June 10, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Madhu Chopra, daughter, Priyanka Chopra and son, Siddharth Chopra. During the conversation, Madhu opened up about her daughter, Priyanka’s strength after the family experienced such a loss. Recalling the time, Madhu said:
"We knew he was ill but when the loss actually happened, all three of us were living on our own. About six months after it happened, Priyanka said, 'This isn't working. We have to share with each other, we have to be together.' So she took us on a quiet holiday to Turks and Caicos-just the three of us. We weren't doing anything extravagant, just moving around silently, almost as a defence mechanism, out of care for each other. We spent a week there, bonded deeply, spoke about what we needed to say. And when we came back, we felt refreshed-ready to get back to work with a new perspective."
