Priyanka Chopra defended promoting colourism

The video begins with the host asking Priyanka whether she thought before doing the Ponds ad with Saif, as it was a pretty regressive thought process. To which Priyanka replied:

“I disagree and in fact the Ponds commercial was the only commercial which did not say that you will get fair in seven days. It did not say that your colour will change, it did not say that if you are dark, then suddenly you will become white. It is the only commercial if you watch it carefully, it said that you will get a pinkish glow, a glow to your skin.”

As soon as the video was shared on Reddit, many Redditors reacted to it and called out Priyanka for being a hypocrite. One of the users wrote, “Wow that ad was way worse than I imagined. The sad dark girl jealous of the glowing white lady? The “pinkish white” glow? The fact that it’s called White Beauty. Just admit you made a mistake!” Another one commented, “She is famous for being a big hypocrite.”

When Priyanka Chopra revealed promoting fairness creams was ‘damaging’

She also revealed how she used to lighten her skin with talcum powder. In a chat with Dax Shepherd on his podcast, Priyanka revealed being part of commercials promoting fairness and how she realised it was extremely damaging. Speaking about the commercials, she said:

“The commercial was so damaging. I am darker skinned girl and this guy comes in and I’m selling flowers and he comes in and he doesn’t even look at me. I start using this cream and I get a job, I get the guy, all my dreams come true and it was like mid-2000s.”
