Supriya Menon was a first-class journalist for NDTV for a long time until she was assigned to cover Malayali cinema by her editor since she, too, was a Malayali by birth. However, she was utterly unaware of anything about Malayali cinema except for a few of the industry's stalwarts like Mamoothy and Mohanlal. Finding this task entirely out of her reach, she asked one of her colleagues for help, who handed her the number of a then young and new actor from Malayali cinema. This person was none other than Prithviraj himself. In a talk session during the TiE Kerala Women Conference in Kochi, Supriya retold the story of her first meeting with Prithviraj and mentioned:
“But a fellow journalist came to my rescue. She handed me the number of a young actor and told me to contact him saying that he would probably be able to help me. That one phone call changed the course of my life. You see, my friend had given an introduction to my future husband, Prithviraj Sukumaran.”
Well, through that one phone call, everything drastically began to change. For Supriya, Prithviraj was just more than a guy to help, but they started as great friends. As Supriya was based out of Mumbai, she gradually became the tour guide of Prithviraj, whose dream was to visit the city and roam around the streets. In an interview with The Times Of India, Prithviraj opened up on his subsequent shift of base in Mumbai, revealing how he looked at the city through his best friend, Supriya’s eyes, which gradually led to their relationship. In his words:
“Though Supriya is a Malayali, she has spent the most of her life in Mumbai. She's a Mumbai girl. In fact, I saw the real Mumbai through Supriya's eyes. But it was Supriya who showed me the sides of Mumbai I had never seen. I wanted to see all the places described in the novel Shantaram like Haji Ali and the Leopold Cafe. Supriya was a friend. I asked her to take me to all these places. Thus, I was in Mumbai and Supriya took over my life for the next few weeks."

These frequent trips to Mumbai set the base of their relationship, which became even stronger due to their deep friendship. The city of Mumbai turned special for the both of them as it was where they eventually fell in love. In one of his interviews, Prithviraj spoke about his love for the city and mentioned:
“This was when we fell in love and decided to get married. So, the city holds a great romantic connection for me. I'd love to live in Mumbai that gave me the love of my life."
Eventually, after dating each other for four years, Supriya and Prithviraj married on April 25, 2011. They later celebrated their union by hosting a reception party the next day. But, this step to marriage was easier said than done, for it was Supriya’s golden career that came at stake. While she was a superbly successful journalist in Mumbai, marrying Prithviraj would shift her base to Kerala. Moreover, marrying a successful star in the film industry was a completely new change. Nevertheless, she did decide without a second thought as she valued Prithvi's companionship, the man who walked beside her in the streets of Mumbai, more than anything but not the star. Recalling her thought process at that point in time, Supriya had once mentioned:
“I decided to marry Prithvi who walked with me and not the star.”
While Supriya was initially apprehensive about taking such a massive decision regarding her career right after her wedding, her dear hubby, Prithviraj, on the other hand, has always been indebted to his ladylove for sacrificing something so crucial in her life. In an interview, Prithviraj mentioned his swelled pride and respect for his wife and said:
“Supriya gave up her job and city to live with me in Kerala. I owe my wife a lot. I don't think I would be what I am today without her support."
After three years of their wedding in 2011, the couple got promoted as parents and welcomed their darling daughter, Alankrita Menon Prithviraj, in 2014. Their adorable baby girl is undoubtedly the apple of their eyes, and the doting parents never seize to shower her with lots of love. However, the actor has often been criticised for his choice of name for their daughter, which features his wife, Supriya’s surname before his name. To this, the dashing actor has bashed the trolls and responded to them with a befitting response, which could be read as:
“I would like my child to have her mother's name..even before mine. So reiterating once again, MENON for me is JUST a name and has no significance whatsoever with respect to caste, religion, or beliefs.''
Fast forward to today, the family of three are living a happy life with the blissful company of one another. While Supriya has succeeded professionally and is a BBC journalist currently, Prithviraj, too is one of the top-notch actors in Mollywood.
